Anne Perry, prolific Victorian-era mystery writer of the Thomas Pitt//Charlotte Ellison and William Monk/Hester Latterly series died 10 April at 84 (in Los Angeles).

Perry also was uncovered in 1994 in conjunction with the movie "Heavenly Creatures" as one of two teenage girls who murdered the mother of the other teenager in New Zealand in the 1950s and spent several years in prison for having done so.

I had to read her Wikipedia bio. She had an interesting life and background.

Her bio has already been updated to include her death, and her last book published days before her death. That surprised me.

surprised and saddened to read this. she was one of my mother's favorite authors, always enjoying her work.

I met and talked with her at a book festival nearly twenty years ago when she was researching her WWI novel series. The scandal of the "Heavenly Creatures" revelation forced her to leave Scotland and move to California, and she wasn't too happy about having to do that. She was very interesting in conversation and down to earth. In recent years she's had research teams helping her with her books and some of them haven't been good about maintaining continuity. My impression is that she hasn't been reading them closely herself before release for some time. Amazon lists 469 titles by her.
