For those who remember him, I have just found out through a mutual publishing contact Amicus passed away last week.

I believe he was in his early eighties and unfortunately his last few months were not good ones. He was all but blind and non comprehensive more often than not.

He had his old fashioned views on somethings and could be a stubborn bastard, but he had an interesting life-including being a former shock radio jock-and was eloquent and intelligent and passionate.

He helped me quite a bit with some Latin I needed for a story and we had some interesting conversations. His daughter is currently fighting with a sleazy publisher to get all his books taken down, hopefully she succeeds.

Just figured I mention it for those that remember him.

Thank you for this. I am sorry that he has passed on. No doubt he will enliven the next place too.

I miss our discussions/arguments.

I remember him although don't think we corresponded directly. My condolences.

Oh Lord, please look after Amicus Veritas (John).
He can be a determined blighter, but , more often than not, as straight as a die.

Sorry to hear this. Amicus was around when I first showed up here. His head was stuck in the fifties on a lot of subjects and his politics were pretty much the same way but he was a pretty good guy in some areas.

He was much better when I first saw him but he became more and more abusive and aggressive over the years. Aging will do that to you, I'm sorry to say.

I hope his daughter wins her battle.

May he rest in peace. :rose:

Really sorry to hear this. We conversed on a few occasions. He was in most cases courteous but as others have said, set in his ways and vehement about his politics.

I wish his daughter luck.

RIP my friend. :rose:

Thanks for passing on the news of his passing on. I liked the old bastard. He was amusing and wrote well. RIP.

I've never known someone who cherry-picked facts as good as amicus. We've had our differences (meaning we tossed insults on each other) but I have to give it to him though, he was very eloquent and good with presenting his views, however twisted they may have been.

RIP, and I hope his daughter wins the battle.

His name for you was USUAL SUSPECT.

I cant recall any or many times me and AMICUS held contrary opinions.

Where could CLOUDY be?

I do remember his amiable abrasiveness (well, not always amiable) and the interesting twists his comments gave to threads. My condolences, and best wishes for his daughter's success.

I remember him, difficult, opinionated, and backward on many subjects.

Interesting how Lit creates these relationships with strangers, people I never really knew, never wanted to know, somehow affecting me.

Hope he's up in that big pervert playhouse in the sky giving Margaret Thatcher lip about feminist bullshit.

World War I happened when 8 unpopular shitbirds killed one man because he was too nice to his subjects.

Sad to hear this. He was an opinionated fellow but I agreed with him most of the time. Rest in Peace!:rose:

Folks should have opinions, opinions are what you get from experience.

Thanks for the notice LC.

He loved to provoke and someone swore he argued as a bleeding liberal on another site at the same time he was up Ayn Rand's ass here.

At the end of his Lit posting he was an asshole and I wondered about about brain issues as the change was so distinct.

We had a few things in common in real life we talked about which softened his edges even though he remained a dinosaur.

I do hope he found some peace. RIP, Amicus.

Oh man, what? I had him on iggy (along with half the other posters here) but I know he certainly had wit and intelligence. Rest in peace!

Where could CLOUDY be?

I'm right here.

Amicus and I disagreed vehemently most of the time, but in one-to-one email correspondence (many moons ago), he was kind and intelligent.

I have to admit that even in the midst of some of our most heated exchanges, he could usually make me laugh, even if it was just at the absurdity of some of his statements.

Rest in peace, worthy opponent. :rose:
