A thread for New Year's poem

For Many Years to Come

:rose: As the year comes to an end
And I look at all the ones we know that has died
It’s great to know that still many loved ones and friends
Are still with us making me glow inside

And it makes me cherish each life all the more
for there is none like them in the earth
Whether someone who get on my nerves or someone I adore
Each carries with them a special worth

For God created them with the same love
He used when creating me
And ordained them worthy of
His truth, grace, and mercy

And despite our differences and fears
He has kept them in our life
Lo all these many years
Both in darkness and in light

Some to be close in all we do
Others appointed a certain time
A special work to perform for you
To help you move farther down the line

And with life’s many facets and tasks
With the coming of each new year
God answers the questions we may ask
With new friends that we meet and hold dear

Each to enrich and enhance our lives
Whether in work, play or fun
Bringing a truth that we grow to realize
Will last us for many years to come

2005

only a moment for me to realize
that it was a year of nothing special.

monday through friday,
up at 6:15,
check email
and the poetry board
to see who's talking about me.
no one's talking about me.

6:30 is breakfast
and I wave it under little noses.
how else will they get up?

"and what does the stem do?!"
I yell as the bus pulls up.
"carries water and food to the rest of the plant!"
my kid yells back, as study time officially ends.

I need coffee with lots of cream and splenda--
something sweet-like and hot
while leaving voice mail for my lover.
he says I go on and on.
I tell him that I get anxious
when conversing with silence.

I write a poem about it.

evening is nickelodeon
and plastic ponies,
more facts to learn,
like frogs leap onto the land
when they grow up.

I wait for my tadpoles to leave the pond
and they will soon.
until then,
I enter another year of nothing special,
except life.

The Musician's Wife

Each December 31st
is much like any other night
for her TV and wine, may be,
or Christmas gifts
played low and lonely.

It's par for her
life and she doesn't mind
really
because she loves him
and can hear him
any time
Tonight others can love him
but not like she does.
