ARE YOU READY FOR THIS?

The absolute best thing that ABC has going for it is John Stossel. He’s a libertarian, and he’s particularly good at showing mindless liberalism for what it is … mindless.

Stossel has an ABC News Special coming up in a few days. It’s called “Tampering with Nature” and it’s about global warming, cloning and genetic engineering.

When Stossel was preparing the piece he asked the parents of some children from the Pacific Palisades section of Los Angeles if their children could be a part of the program. They said yes. Now the parents are upset, and they don’t want their children included in the special? And just why? Because they say that Stossel’s questioning of their children was unfair and that Stossel was dishonest.

OK .. so what’s the real problem here? Evidently it centers around one particular question that Stossel asked the kids.

Here’s the rub. Stossel asked the children for a show of hands on how many of them believed scientists were unanimous on the dangers of global warming.

Damned good question, folks. We’ve known for ages that the media presents a virtual one-sided view on global warming. We’re always being told about all of the scientists who believe that global warming is real and caused by humans. The other side – the only side with any real scientific data – is left out of the picture.

Stossel wanted to know if the children were getting the same one-sided presentation. A simple un-biased question showed that these children were, indeed, being given only one side of the issue.

Behind all of this is a crowd of eco-leftist-radicals called The Environmental Working Group. They don’t like Stossel one little bit. When they got wind of the program they started contacting the parents of these kids. One parent said that it was this group that finally convinced him to make a complaint to ABC. Other parents are actually threatening lawsuits if their children are shown when the piece is aired.

So, there you go, folks. By asking a simple question of a group of school children John Stossel shows that these kids are only getting one side of the issue when it comes to important environmental issues. This doesn’t set well with the eco-radical crowd. They have to find a way to stop this special from airing. They contact the parents of these kids and start stirring the puddin’.

Now --- let’s wait to see if ABC caves on this one. Just three days until the special is supposed to air.

It seems amazing that he asks

for a show of hands on who believes global warming is a fact...

and the parents perceive this as a trick question and are crying foul.

And if we have to offer evolution as a competing theory to creationalism in our schools, why can we not have a competing theory on Global Warming (thank's Rush!).

Well, how old are these kids? You say school-age, does that make then 8, or 10, or 16? And what exactly does Stoessel expect to get by asking an extremely small group of kids if they think that scientists are unanimous in thinking that global warming is real or not? So what if a handful of kids thinks that scientists are unanimous in thinking this way. If Stoessel did a sampling of like 150 kids across the country and 90% of them thought this way, maybe we have something.

The question itself is leading. "Do you think scientists are unanimous on the dangers of global warming". The question obviously implies that global warming is dangerous, the words are right there. Scientists know what they're talking about, right? They're the guys in the lab coats who tell us things. They wouldn't disagree with each other, would they? So the kid, maybe not knowing any better, says yes.

And if the kids are in a group, and several kids raise their hands, the pressure on the other kids to follow their example and not stick out would be overwhelming. No one likes to be made to look like a fool.

And that's why I agree with those parents who are pissed off. Their kids are made to look like fools. Shame on them for letting their kids be used to make a totally inaccurate and ridiculous point, but the bigger shame is on Stoessel, who is practicing gotcha journalism.

I'm not a big fan of his, I find him a bit too smug about his own overwhelming intelligence and insight, neither of which I think he has in quantity.

I dunno about the point raised that the only side in the global warming debate with real scientific evidence is the "everything's fine lets burn some hydrocarbons" side. President Bush decided to hold off on making any decisions on global warming policy until a study by the National Academy of Science came in, and when it did last month, and said that global warming was a huge potential threat, the silence from the White House was deafening. I don't know how much scientific evidence is required before people start accepting the fact that there IS some scientific evidence that something's going on, but it's starting to pile up.

Yes they are caving (Druge)

... and so are the counter theories and the flaws we keep finding in the data.

(2) experiments - historical cloud cover photos,

trained weather observer reports (which are very detailed in things like % of cloud cover,

asking, are there really more clouds? Are we turning into Venus? Can we kill ourselves off? I dunno. I do know eventually, we will end up a lot more like Mars than Venus, but eventually, we will warm up one last time,

but it's just a theory. Ask Todd.

God could end it all manana senor!
