OK ... I know there's a few Internet wizards on here ..

When I Right click on a photo .. and choose "Save Picture As" ... the only format I can save as is .bmp ???

I used to be able to save in the native format ... ie .jpg or .gif or whatever

anyone have a hint as to why when I download a picture its automatically changed to a .bmp ... eventhough its not ??

Im using the latest version of Internet Explorer (6.0 with all the latest patches applied

wtf ???

thanks in advance

I think there is yavascript (replace the y with J)
code or something a web page can put into a page to prevent you from copying a photo. Try another web page, and see if it still is that way.

What web page, what image are you having this on?

And, I'd strongly enouage everyone to switch to Firefox. It is much better than IE and has fewer security issues. Tabbed browsing is its biggest selling point.

Interest note, you cannot type yavascript with a J in it in a lit message!

thanks TBare ... I was trying to copy a few pics from here (Lit) and it wouldnt let me save them as .jpgs .... even right clicking on someone's AV ... it thinks I should save it as a goddam bitmap ??

I'll give Firefox a try

I've NEVER used IE....can't stand it, but Firefox rocks.

Before you do that, try clicking on a .jpg in Windows Explorer (i.e. browse to a jpg on your hard disk). If double-click on it a program should open. If not, your file associations are buggered. Try repairing IE from the Add/Remove programs option in Control Panel.

I have the same issue, but I save it as bmp and then open it and 'save as' a jpg. P.

Thank you Purrrrrdeeeeta......I was waiting to see if someone came up with the simplest answer of all. Us bright women must stick together.
Exactly what I do. Save it as whatever it says it is, then open it in whatever photoprogramme you use, and resave as a .jpeg.
Not a problem.
Short, sweet, uncomplicated.

Don't make life any more complicated that it already is.

I think you'll like it, I don't think I've heard anyone say they didn't.

For users of Internet Explorer who gets .bmp when they want to save a .jpg or .gif files:

Delete the Temporary Internet Files (it's under Tools / Internet Options in the menu). That usually fixes the problem.
