Rida?

I'm ok, thanks!
But stuck at work as trains are not running, cabs are mobbed and street jammed.

I could walk home but it might be wiser at this point to wait for tomorrow, when is light.

We shook for 7 minutes, the longest I've felt here so far. The aftershocks that would usually rise concerns, we don't even notice them.

Up north thou, is a mess.

Good Good.

That all caught me by surprise. There was the one the other day that didn't cause any damage really, and then when I was transiting home tonight, this all happened.

Holy crow.

I can't help but wonder if this is a ripple effect from the one that smashed Christchurch the other week, both regions are on the edge of the Pacific plate.

They are probably connected in some ways. I'll just have to refresh my memory re: tectonic plates.

They say to be careful as there might be more powerful aftershocks.
We just keep on rolling around it seems.

(this was not an up & down shake, but more of a classic side one)

I woke up and my wife had left for work already, she left the TV on. I immediately saw it was so I would find the Japan earthquake news. The very first thing I did was turn on the computer to ask about you!!

The TV said it is the worst since 1890s in Japan. Even stronger than 1923 quake.

Thank you!

It was a serious shake even all the way here down Tokyo (over 300Km south).

Now the fear is that this was simply a front runner for the big Kanto quake ...

In the meantime, trains are back in service so I better head home before they close for the night!

Thanks!

ETA: not going home.
too many people and too little trains.
at least I'm warm here and I have booze ^_~

I am glad you are OK and hope you remain so. I have been trying to contact another online friend I have who is north of Tokyo, but so far no news from him so am keeping everything crossed.

That's very sweet of you! I am back in the US, of course, much to my mother's great relief today...

Got home and the only damage is that the aircon outside unit managed to get hit by the only thing that could fall (Hubby's old bicycle) and it appear it broke the vent.

Oh well.

Rida, you were the first person I think of when I've heard about the Tsunami in Japan.

I am SO glad you are alright!! :rose:

Sharing all the same thoughts. Please take good care. Keep us posted if and when you can.

Glad you and yours are ok.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all in Japan who are coping with the aftermath xx

Still haven't heard from my friend who is teaching in the area hit so am hoping it is because they are busy coping or not able to access internet/phone etc., not worse.

Happier now...he is OK, as are all friends and their families he could contact, though having to conserve power and exist on minimal necessities of life.:)

A solar powered phone charger is always a good gift. I have one for situations like this. They are easy to find in Japan, too - some convenience stores even sell them.

He probably has one as he has been there for several years, but I think he has just been busy trying to manage and stock up on water and save energy...they had no power (or internet, cellphone connection etc.) for 2 days and now are on rationing and blackouts. Local stores have limited food to 3 items per person. They have had lots of after shocks shaking everything up (he thinks they have had about 230 so far). Nothing seems certain right now. He still has not been able to contact some friends, so is hoping that they are OK. He says they have been training and gotten their exit from the house down to 15 seconds and are spending a lot of time in bed to keep warm.
