The car hummed low, the lights inside were dim and illuminating the radio and gauges with a soft aqua green glow. Jason's hands gripped the steering wheel tensely, flexing as the song on the radio played--but he couldn't hear it. His mind was racing, remembering the scene they just left, remembering Sarah... he glanced out of the corner of his eyes at her, sitting next to him in the passenger seat, jaw clenching angrily to see that expression on her face in his mind's eye. Letting out a harsh breath, he reached forward and silenced the stupid radio with a quick flick of his wrist on the volume, leaving the inside of the car in silence, nothing but the quiet hum of the engine to give a backdrop to his thoughts.

The song playing happened to one of Sarah's favorite. She knew something was bothering Jason but she didn't question it. Usually if it was a work problem, then he wouldn't want to talk about it. That's what had it to be...right? Yeah, it had to be... it wasn't the amount of drinks he had... he wasn't a 'drinker' persay, but when he did drink...well...

Sarah didn't look at him, didn't ask him, instead she just stared out the passenger window, watching the water from the rain make little water trails across the window. The night was dark, as was the drive back to their home. It was more than 30 miles from the city, a little farmhouse on a 25 acre spread, something Sarah had wanted for a long time and was finally surprised with by Jason just over two years ago.

Not a neighbor for miles around....

'Here we go...' thought Sarah as she sighed loudly, bracing herself as Jason turned off the radio... the music seemed to be the only buoy in a rough sea of tension..

Smiling a little, humorlessly, Jason turned to Sarah, keeping an eye on the road. "Did you enjoy yourself tonight?" his tone is icy cold, threatening. He gripped the wheel harder, the plastic making a small squeak under his hands, his body tensing and filling with heat, as if the broken silence opened the gates and let it all come crashing in. "I can't believe the way you acted in there..." he said through a sneer, his mind numbed with jealous rage, re-visualizing the scene of her hanging on those men--strangers, friends of friends, briefly met at the beginning of the evening--her laughter floating through his mind, and remembering the look he got from Mark and the other people he was speaking to after they glanced her way.

"Just calm down Jass, damnit, I said I was sorry!" Sarah said, a little too loudly... rarely did she ever counter any of Jason's comments...but right now, he didn't know what he was talking about!

"What the fuck was going through your head? Hm? Flirting with those men...And with Mark?! Tell me, did the concept of self-control not enter your mind at all?" Jason smacked the steering wheel as a new burst of anger filled him and it needed to be released, his breath coming out heavily. "Just...tell me, what was going through your head while you flaunted and flirted with those men tonight. Just, please, give me a reason, not to explode right now," there is a threat in his voice, and a chill, his voice soft as he tries to control another flash of rage shooting through him.

That was it. Sarah turned to face Jason, her tears threatening to fall. "I told you Jason, there is nothing going on!!! How many fucking times do I have to tell you that?!"

8 months later
And that's when Sarah woke up...her heart literally beating out of her chest... a sheen of sweat covering her body... It was a nightmare that she didn't want to finish, but yet, at the same time, she did... hoping deep down it would turn out different than it had in reality.

Looking over at the clock, the soft blue glow showed that it was 15 til 5AM...

Damnit, she didn't have to get up early today... but it was too late, she couldn't go back to sleep, at least not after that...

After a quick shower and finishing up her morning routine, Sarah was dressed in a simple pair of dark grey khakis and a white top. She had some things to get taken care of and it was best to do it before the lunch rush began, besides, she was supposed to meet Daniel for lunch and she didn't want to raise any suspicion by missing it. Then again, Daniel wouldn't really question it, he wasn't demanding or controlling like--

"Damnit Sarah...don't say his name.. don't even think about him!"

Even though it had been just a few months, it felt more like days when Sarah got out of that nightmare of a life she called married life to Jason...

Jason had spent months doing nothing but searching. Hunting. Looking for that mouthy cunt of a wife who'd abandoned him, run out on him and forsaken her vows. Vows said in the church, before God. Who the fuck did she think she was?

Months of coming up empty had finally turned up a lead, which led him to the city and an address. Jason was smoking sullenly while watching the front door of the apartment building where he'd found Sarah at last. He was leaning against a payphone on the other side of the street when he saw her, for the first time in nearly a year. First and foremost, Jason was glad to see that she was keeping it tight, but after that brief moment of shallow appreciation, months of narrowly contained rage boiled over inside him.

Flicking his cigarette into the street, Jason made his way out into traffic, subtlely slipping into her wake, trying to stay out of sight, though she may have seen him already.

God she was on edge. Today, of all days, seemed more...more tense than others. There never...NEVER...was a time when Sarah was in a state of ease. She was always looking over her shoulder...always looking for a constant threat..

Was there one? She couldn't afford to think there was not one. 'Keep on your toes with him..' was a warning from an ex of Jason's during their after party of the wedding. Of course, Sarah had taken it as an idle comment from a jealous ex...no, it was the truth and it was something Sarah found out too late.

Crossing the street, Sarah kept her head down, looking at her phone, reading a text from Daniel. He had made it to the restaurant before she had. Biting her lip, she held back a smile. Daniel was an OK guy. He was sweet, nice...a banker, what more could a girl want? But he was also boring...stuck up at times... handsome... Sarah was typing in a response when someone collaided into her, her shoulder being hit hard, causing her to drop her phone!

Quickly, she bent down to pick up the phone and with the crowd, it was hard to reach... as she grabbed it, she lost her balance and she felt a hand grab her arm rather hard, dragging her back up. By the time she got her bearings, Sarah realized there was no one around... the honking of a horn jerked her out of her thoughts and she finish crossing the street. She stopped at the corner and looked around..something wasn't right...

She continued to look around, but saw no one...

The phone in her hand started to vibrate, then ring but Sarah paid no attention to it... instead, her eyes were still darting around when they locked onto someone...

It couldn't be!

There was no time to waste, she couldn't take any chances....she had to get back to get back to her place...she had a gun there...the door locked, she could call the police...

Jason made his way seamlessly through the crowd, always keeping Sarah in his sights, but when she charged out to cross the street, he caught her eye for the sparest of moments and knew at once he'd been made. Jason took out after her, a high school athlete, he closed the distance in scant seconds and took rough hold of her arm, his fingers landing hard enough to leave bruises behind.

"Just keep walking." He hissed into her ear, steering her back toward the building she'd just left. "We're going to go upstairs and have a little chat. Dear."

His voice was honeyed venom, guiding her back toward her apartment building, her slender arm easily encompassed by his massive rough hand.

"I've been looking for you, you know. Looking ever so hard. You remember me don't you? Your husband. Give me your phone. Give me that goddamn phone!"

People stopped and turned as Jason raised his voice, but here in the city, minding one's own business was like an artform. He shoved her toward the door and pulled open his coat so that she could see the pistol wedged into the waist of his tight fitting jeans.

"Let me in."

It took a lot for Sarah not to cry out as she would feel Jason's fingers dig into her arm. Sure she didn't want any of this happening, but if she were to show him hurting her, he would just blame it all on her and of course, make her pay for it more later.

"Just keep walking. We're going to go upstairs and have a little chat. Dear."

Sarah could hear...no! She could feel the hate in the way he called her that.

"I've been looking for you, you know. Looking ever so hard. You remember me don't you? Your husband. Give me your phone. Give me that goddamn phone!"

"Listen Jason...don't do this! I was going to come back!! I swear!!" Sarah told him as she tried to hold the phone away from him...but her words...the shaking of her voice fell upon deaf ears. When Jason set his mind to something, there was no way in hell to talk him out of it or make any pleas of any sort until he finished the task...

They made it to her apartment but she didn't make the effort to open the door, "NO!" She told him, her hate matching his. This was not going to end like this! Sarah was not going to be bullied anymore!!

"Let me in." That's when she saw it.

A gun.

Of course, Sarah contemplated the idea of tossing the keys down the hall but what price would she pay for that?!

She hesitated a moment longer. God, had she lost her mind or what?

"No."

Jason seethed as Sarah defied him, brazen in it's unabashed boldness. Looking down at the screen of the phone that he'd had to back her into the doorway to retrieve, it vibrated once more in his hand, the screen coming to life with some dumb pic- a pretty-boy shit head with a saved Identity.

"Who the fuck is this? Huh? You been fucking around, just like always, huh?" The cell phone burst to large, clunky pieces that scattered around Sarah's face- cover, case and battery. Breaking into more pieces as it hit the ground. "Stupid fucking whore. I'll teach you what a marriage is all about."

With the phone destroyed, his body pressing Sarah into the corner of her stoop, he reached his hand into the tight pockets of her slacks. Protesting pops of fabric and thread following his hand inside. He grabbed the keys from within and held them up to her. He opened the main door and shoved her inside.

"Get in there!" Jason slammed the door behind himself, pulling the snub revolver from inside his pants. "You'd better take me back to your place, or this is going to get a lot worse for both of us. I just want to talk. Alright?"
