I submitted a story and got the rejection notice this morning, with the only box checked being the "under eighteen" one. This was simply an error on the editor's part, I think, because I had put in the first paragraph that the female character was eighteen. All I can think is that someone read it too quickly or something, because I didn't repeat that critical bit of information over and over or anything. I just put it in the first paragraph where I thought someone would see it right away.
Anyway, the question is: how should I have handled it? I read the rejection slip and understandably enough, it didn't include information on what to do if you think there was maybe an error (can you imagine how many disgruntled people would jump on that option?).
What I did do is submit it again under a different name with an explanation of the situation, previous name of the story, etc. in the note box, but now I'm wondering if there was another, better way to handle it.
Any advice? Should I just let it go like this and see what happens to the copy I submitted today? Or contact someone about it? If so, who?
Thanks for any help you can provide. It's my first story
