Most anything public that many people touch or handle is no doubt going to have bacteria. Best to wash, or at least rinse, your hands no matter what public place you're in or handling an item used by multiple persons. Keep a rag or paper towel handy for when you exit wherever you're at.

My biggest pet peeve about public toilets is when some asshole has made a mess lining up the seat or around the toilet. And the ones with pee all around them? Like, how can someone miss such a large round thing like the toilet? At least flush that stuff down the toilet before leaving it. I do take time to wipe the lid if I have to sit down. Especially if someone has left a mess.
