We assume that readers are rational and fair, and the assumption is deluded.
As long as readers can give feedback writers will get their nonsense. There is no cure for it. And flattery is as bad as the bizarre criticism.
Flattery is bad ???
So when I get an e-mail that says, "Your story was so great I came five times reading the first sentecne," that's bad?![]()
Agree. There is no way to respond to Anon, good or bad, so I don't put much weight in that direction. Respond to those who leave their name.I leave almost all anonymous PCs alone. I don't respond, nor do I delete them unless they are just an attack on me, not on the story.
Negative comments can be helpful. One of my stories (Trapped - link to my stories in my signature) has attracted many negative comments. I put the story in Loving Wives which is a sure way to get negative responses, when it really should have gone in fetish or mild BDSM.
Og
I feel strongly about deleting such comments. I'd never delete an honest critique of the story, but people can be obnoxious and some come trolling around, aiming to do nothing more than leave rude comments like graffiti on a mural. There should be no guilt or worry felt about deleting such vandalism and restoring the mural.I haven't deleted any of the negative anonymous comments, a couple of them just show the person's ignorance and their dislike of the interracial subject matter.
I agree with your way of thinking, concerning this subject.I feel strongly about deleting such comments. Those of us who write gay stories see a lot of these comments--and believe me, the culprit never comes back. As you say, they are, indeed, cowards. What you need to think about, however, is future readers who sometimes like to go through the comments. Don't ruin their feelings about the end of the story by leaving up this "hate-crime." That lets the asshole who left it "win" because he can jerk people out of thoughts on your story to thoughts on his comment. Which is exactly what he wants. Everyone to remember the graffiti he left, not the mural you painted.

Yep, unfortunately the Internet has proven that folks will be assholes wherever you go. Sorry about that.
It's insane to see how many people lack class on Literotica. When I registered, I thought to myself finally I can write my stories where people will be open-minded and mature. Nope! People will be assholes wherever you go. You just have to choose which comments are worth listening to and which aren't. I always delete the stupid comments, but keep the ones written with respect and maturity, even if they give a bad note to my story.
