I have taken issue with some of the rape/non-consent stories in the past, especially those that start off with some sort of criminal rape and end with the victim falling in love with the rapist.

I don't know why, but this seems to be a recurring theme in romance fiction, which is primarily written for women. A common feature of a romance novel is the "rogue" who is changed by the love of a woman. The fantasy for the readers is that they can "reform" a bad acting man with their love. Not very realistic, but it sells millions of copies.

Actually, it is a fairly well documented psychological phenomenon known as the Stockholm Syndrome, where kidnap victoms indentify with thier captors, and even join them, and fall in love with them. Patty Hurst is a good example.

On this site, Whisper's "Hostile Takeover" is an excelent example of genre, which shows excelent resurch as she leads her protagionist through the stages of full blown "Stockholm Syndrom". I think that she stopped the story to soon, as I would like to see the recovery.

You're giving me way too much credit there! I didn't really research anything for "Takeover." Harold helped me enormously with details about old-fashioned razors, and someone suggested the name of a slick gun I could use, but other than that, everything came from my head. I had no idea there was any syndrome.

And about the recovery? There is no recovery from love...hopefully. ;)
