Turns out if you trace the genealogy of some of the loudest anti-immigration voices you find out their families would not have been allowed into the US under current and proposed public polices were they in effect when their ancestors immigrated.

My favorite so far: Republican Congressman Steve King of Iowa tweeted - “We can't restore our civilization with somebody else's babies,”

But .... King’s grandmother Freda Harm was one of those "Dreamer" / DACA anchor-baby (or whatever the deplorables call it). She showed up at the age of four at Ellis Island, not speaking English with her parents and had two other little sibling dreamer babies with them.

Then you have Dan Scavino, Jr., White House social media director bellyaching that "chain migration is choking" the US, but documents clearly show his great-grand-uncle coming here on a "business trip". He never leaves (just like the over staying of a visa he complains about) and then the uncle becomes the address for the next brother to use on their paper to immigrate.

Then Gildo (Scavino's great grandfater) gets in on the act and references the other two on his papers. They are followed by sister Esther. And then the youngest Clotilde, her baby son Mario and the Scavinos’ widowed father show up. Does that sound like "chain migration" to anyone?

Like I said - what a hoot.

I've always known this, take for instance Dump, his mother was an Irish immigrant. Ireland was once a shithole at one point in time.

I call it the "pull the ladder behind you" syndrome. They don't want anyone else to make it in America.

All you manage to do is insult because your dumbass has nothing to offer. That's why you got banhammered, for being a dumbass.

He's right. And I'm sure much more intelligent than your high school dropout swamptoad ass will ever be.

You have already proven you don't know history and cannot learn its lessons. But thanks for confirming that fact.

Thank you!

These holier than thou clowns think they are so much better than these immigrants. Sticking their noses high up into the air they could breathe the shit of Zeus.

But let me tell you something, their ancestors were hungry as hell, tired, and hopeful escaping whatever fateful situation away from their homelands. Like they all came from Kings, Earls, Barons, and Dukes. Ha.

And best believe, if their ancestors' homelands was bordering the good ol' United States, they would have hopped their asses across the Rio Grande.

They are full of shit.

My grandfather was 5 when my great-grandparents brought him to the US from Poland. Under the proposed "merit based" changes to the immigration laws he would not be allowed to naturalize as he did on his 16th birthday.

Why?

Because his parents were unskilled. He wasn't that well educated either, going to a simple country schoolhouse and becoming a small time farmer on a 1/4 section farm.

Yet he raised 4 kids who gave him several grandkids. The kids and grandkids have ALL contributed in some way to modern society by either military/public service or similar. Several of us have college degrees and a few are tech innovators. We have made America better than it was when my Grandfather came here.

Yet, he would not have been allowed in today.

It is for that reason alone I do not agree with the currently proposed "merit based" immigration standards. You don't know the future. You don't know what the immigrant can/will do once he gets here. And you don't know what his children will accomplish. To deny immigration to someone just because he's "simple" or "uneducated" is ridiculous. And short sighted.

LEGAL immigration is what we need to focus on. Not "special immigration" or immigration for "special reasons".

Well you progressives better get busy aborting those babies to make room for all those unskilled immigrants. :)

how do you suggest the issue of the illegals that work 8-10 hours a day so that you could have a nicely manicured lawn or a clean dish is addressed?

They're easily replaced with fentanyl junkies, crack whores, thumb jockeys. and pols expelled for sexual abuse.

The difference is, she came in legally.

His mother was not Irish. She was a Gaelic speaking Scot from Tong on the Isle of Lewis. She only learned English after she went to school. She emigrated legally to America in 1930.

Because his mother was born a Brit, Donald Trump would have the right to take UK citizenship any time he chose. Ironically therefore, Donald Trump has at least as much foreign ancestry in his parents as Barrack Obama.

Last I had a VERY interesting conversation with someone about ancestors.com and learned some fascinating shit about it and other relevant info.

This dude I conversed with is extremely intelligent and very knowledgeable on all sorts of stuff about that and religious crap. And possibly the 2nd smartest motherfucker on the planet.:)

DACA - the DACA kids should continue to get their special protection with conditions. Such as; any criminal conviction above infraction means immediate deportation then and there. No hearing, no waiting, no delay. And, since they are still here "illegally", but with special protections and privileges, they don't get bail if they are arrested because they are an automatic flight risk. In addition, they cannot sponsor anyone for immigration and this would be a 1-time deal that will NEVER be done again by any Congress or THIS DEAL is broken and the DACA kids all get immediate deportation. Write those provisions into the bill and I'm all for it.

The remaining illegals:

The unaccompanied minors - They should be going to foster homes in the State foster care system where they can be supervised and cared for while their legal status is determined. If they are not adopted out of the foster care system, and are here illegally, then upon their 16th birthday they should be given a choice: Deportation upon their 18th birthday or expedited naturalization. Naturalization can ONLY occur if they are criminal behavior free. No convictions or infractions or criminal/gang affiliations. Gang tattoos qualify as association or affiliation.

Remainder of illegal entrants - deport them if no other legal authority allows them entry. Create a branch of the judiciary that is assigned to the border processing facilities to handle the hearings for those seeking asylum as well as those whose civil rights require a hearing and determination before deportation. Hearings must be held within 72 hours and ALL detainees have no right to release or bail prior to the outcome of the hearing.

We do need a worker visa program for migrant labor that is efficient and trackable. Make the employers responsible for tracking the workers and limit the visas to a short duration of time. Something like 12 weeks normal up to 26 weeks in special, extremely limited circumstances, though they can be renewed at the point of origination. Which would be the US consulate in their country of origin not here in the US. IOW, workers can apply through the US consulates for worker visas and come here to work legally. When the visa expires they MUST GO HOME. If they want to come back for more work they must go back to the issuing consulate for the visa to be renewed. Issuance and/or renewal of a work visa will only be done after a background verification and cross-check for criminal behavior/association/duplication. This can take 6-8 months so there would be no "take a week's vacation and go get your renewal" dodge. Simple.

As for the 8-10 hour work day - I WISH my work days were so short.

LEGAL immigration is what we need to focus on. Not "special immigration" or immigration for "special reasons".

On what basis should legal immigration be prioritized? Or are you saying that such prioritization is, itself, inappropriate?

Seems to me that is the entire legitimate basis for ALL of that which is legal or illegal -- to allow or prohibit conduct or policies to the general benefit of society. Immigration policy and the laws implementing it are no different.

You misunderstand.

We should be focusing on fixing the legal immigration system so that LEGAL immigrants can come here faster and easier than they do now.

That should not be done by making "special classes" of immigrants who get "special deals".

By focusing on LEGAL immigration, one automatically eliminates the rest of the problems that are currently being bruted about by those seeking special privileges. Because if you aren't here LEGALLY, then you don't get to be here and there won't be any future "amnesty" for you.

Fix what's broken and make sure it doesn't break again.
