He's not resigning.... he's simply taking some time off to an overhaul so that he can become a full time member of the Borg!
(and yes... I have just GOT to believe that there is a plot bunny in there someplace... ESPECIALLY if he gets turned into the Borg Queen - he's already used to wearing dresses... )
