Hi guys,

I have completed work on a story I would like to post here. It is novel length at around 70,000 words and is based on the relationships that formed between a former coma patient and a group of nurses who were involved with her treatment.

The story is written in the style of a mystery and it contains a fair amount of lesbian sex and a minor amount of heterosexual sex. Besides the sex there is murder, fraud, blackmail, a courtroom trial, and rich doctors involved in drugs and wife swapping parties. There is a highly technical section contained in the story when an expert witness testifies about blood chemistry and the bio-chemical process of how the brain functions in a coma patient.

I'm seeking recomendations for an editor. I would prefer to use someone who you guys have used to edit your works in the past. If you have used an editor who did a good job with lesbian sex and courtroom or medical issues that would be perfect.

Since the story is long it will be a big job to edit the entire work so please take that into mind when making your recomendations.

Many of you guys were a big help to me by making suggestions for my research into the process of how coma's occur and the recovery process for the patients. I have incorporated many of your suggestions into the story.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Jill

Anyone who's found a good editor most likely went through a lot of crap before that happened. Now they have one. It is human to be jealously guarding the secret. I'd be surprised if the names come out on the board.

I have no suggestions. I'm just here to give you a big CONGRATS!! on finishing your novel! :rose:

I thought Cant was overly pessimistic but given no one responded, the man is right.

Sorry that i can't help you jill.

My editor is Shanglan and sometimes Gauche. They are both constantly swamped though. Good luck and congrats on your story. Let us know when it goes up!

I don't think the lack of response is caused as much by people keeping their editors' identity to themselves as it is that most of us simply don't know an editor with the skills requested and that would have the time to edit a work that large. It's a daunting task.

There is a good deal that goes into findng an editor you like and trust. It's more building a personal relationship than anything else. The people who edit and proof for me, as well as those who generally act as sounding boards volunteered to do so after becoming my freinds, so i don't feel at liberty to too their names out, despite thinking they are very good.

I imagine most of us ar in the same boat here where those who edit for us are concerned.

Thanks to all of you for your help and assistance. I have asked my husband to perform the technical proofing. However, I don't think he is very well qualified to make recomendations concerning the lesbian sex scenes.

Well maybe he will surprise me and shown a feminine side I was unaware of. Or even better maybe the story will excite him and he will sweep me off of my feet tonight.

I'm still interested in forming a relationship with a proven editor for this genre.

Hugs and kisses.

Jill

I can't say I know much about lesbian sex, particularly. Technical proofing is not easy but not dependent on sexual experience. What sort of thing would you expect an editor to do differently if the editor were lesbian? I don't understand the problem.

Well cantdog, I wouldn't begin to know or understand the effects of testosterone on the male sexual drive. I think I would have to experience that before I could understand it.

I would also think that a man would have some difficulty knowing the emotional aspects of female sex. We are built differently and think differently.

By the way cantdog; your response to my original request for some help is what I expected from a guy who has a self centered approach to life.

That is the way a female thinks.

No offense Jill.

But accusing cant of being self centred is not unlike accusing Donald Trump of communism.

Agreed, Rob. Cant has always been more than generous with his time and his wisdom. Hardly "self-centered" by any definition.

You are all 3 correct. Cant is a generous and kind soul. Cant's original post comes across as self centered. Personally, I was startled to see it the first time because it seems so unlike him and do not see any way to blame Jill in the least for her judgements based on it.

RG,

You are a perfect gentleman and I respect that you would come to the aid of a friend. Maybe I misjudged "cant". If he is a friend of yours he must have some redeeming qualities that have escaped me so far.

By the way RG, I found your advise on coma patients to be very helpful. Thanks again.

Don't know as I could help you specifically with the lesbian sex issues. If you want me to go over trial procedures and courtroom manuevering...I got 10 years xp in that sleezy buiz. You might wan't to cross-post in the Editor's forum. I'm on both the vol. editor's panel and the alt. editor's panel. I use Lady Cybill (who's name I know I'm mispelling) for my stuff.

I'd be happy to help if you still need it. It may take me awhile tho, I'm working on my second book right now.

Thanks vamp,

My hubby is working on it now and then I might take you up on your offer. Five of the 26 Chapters take place in the Orange County Courthouse in Santa Ana, Ca.
