Love physics! My favourite youtube channel is SixtySymbols! The stuff they explain is fantastic. Makes me wish I'd worked harder in maths and science in school.

That would be a rather long PM, if we're getting into any detail. Doppler shifts and EM waves and things like that. Gravitational lenses and distortion, all kinds of good stuff.

You know, I just finished reading 'A Brief History of Time' about two weeks back. I thought it was remarkably well done. Not particularly light reading for the layman, but a very nice crash physics course.

To each their own, indeed. Black holes? Yes. Dark matter? Not so much here. Although, they are rather related, aren't they? I don't enjoy the technical side of the theory, but I love teasing out the little logic jumps that lead from one area of physics to the other. From the quantum to the universal. It's quite fun. But that's just the nerd in me, I suppose.

Physics is actually all the simplest things in the world broken down into a bunch of minutiae. People think it's highly technical and incredibly complex, and while that's true to a degree, it's also very intuitive. It's not necessarily a matter of understanding. Actually, it's often the other way around. You need to forget what you understand to learn the new things about the universe at large.

Believe it or not, it works the same from the other direction, at least for me.

i'd like to think most right thinking people would prefer their (would be) partners to be at least semi-functional in the brain department ... there are obvious exceptions of course (see also the bad TV discussion ) but as humans we get stimulated by discussion

I certainly appreciate being able to have an intelligent conversation with a woman. Not necessarily about any given topic, but having good conversation with someone on the same intellectual plane (or a higher one ) is definitely a good way to get the blood going.

i agree with you....unfortunately many men i meet in real life think i must be stupid because i'm cute so i get the stereotypical shoe shopping comment thrown at me, which i quickly deflect with a comment about physics or literature, then watch them run away confused!

I wouldn't run away from the physics comments...maybe if you were TOO pretty you'd scare me, but not science talk. I work in a science field....

Not sure your topic, but not all PMs have to be dirty and nasty (though the fun ones are)...you could ask for a simple PM...you'd get quite a few I think....
