Reputations sucked. Image is reality, regardless of reality.
Jack was a goody-goody. Ask anyone in his school. A+ student. 1600 PSATS & SATS. Treasurer of the chess club. The lighting & set guy for all the school plays. But that's not what cemented his reputation as a goody-two-shoes. No, his place in the pecking order was fixed when he tattled on some of the other boys who snuck into the girls' bathroom and hid in a stall to watch them pee.
That was back in second grade. But it was a small town, and stuff like that stuck with you. He couldn't wait for college so he could start fresh. That was almost a year away. It was almost homecoming of Jack's senior year. Midterms were coming up. His high school set its courses up like a college, 2 semesters a year. Jack was in all AP courses, but he wasn't worried. He was one hell of a student. School work came easily to him, much easier than socialization.
He was in the auditorium, hanging lights fifty feet in the air on the school's pneumatic lift when a girl came in the door & changed his life.
