Repurposed sentimental value

I have a little blue topaz pendant that I love, but it was given to me by a really nasty ex. He ruined my self-confidence for a good long while. Anyway. Last xmas I saw some earring that matched it and pointed them out to the Fiance who bought them for me for Xmas... now I wear the pendant and earrings together and it feels like the Fiance gave me all three.

I have a ring that a reallt lovely ex bought me. It wasn;t right between us and I dumped him, but I still feel bad about how I did it. I rarely wear that ring, because it makes me feel terrible all over again about how I treated him. I hope he's OK.

Items like that ring would make a nice gift to someone else who has no emotions attached to the item. If you can't enjoy it, then maybe someone else you care about can.

That's an excellent idea, but I can't think of anyone who would both like it and deserve such an expensive gift. Maybe I'll just keep it for my daughter... :)

Back from the outing. It totally worked :D I had an excellent time, I laughed so much my face hurts, and I got several compliments on the dress (I'm not usually the girl who turns heads). Couldn't have been better.

After today, there's no way I could ever wear that dress and not smile. Repurposing successful :)

There are the very mundane things which remind me the most of Her.

The very hard part of a wedge of cheese, that she loved to nibble on... And for what seemed like the longest time, everytime I sliced it off, I would stare at it and the pain of her loss would roll across me in waves.

Then one day, I sliced it off and looked at it... and it made me smile.

It reminded me of being in Love.

*bump* 'cause I've been thinking about this a lot lately & trying to be sensitive to the "emotional imprinting" that is a source of stress/pain for those who aren't necessarily thrilled with the choices I've made.

Yeah. I have a little red acura that I got chased by the cops in. I got caught, trampled on by the cops, and thrown in the slammer. I still have that little red car and love it more than I can say. I decided that since it saw me through one of the worst ordeals of my life (despite the fact that I got caught in it), I'll keep that little red car till the end of my life. It reminds me of what I was and of what I learned. It also reminds me every day that I am now free.

Wow, I totally forgot about this thread. I really am glad I kept the dress; it turned out to be the start of a lot of good things. My friends and I have now made the outings a monthly treat, I've since bought a few more dresses that make me feel like I do look good, and the ease of it all made me realize that the evening when I first wore the dress didn't hurt much else than my pride. I'm just sad that I can't wear it anymore (due to weight loss).

I'll have to dig out a picture.
