You know, I see a lot of these "last man" type stories, but what about Generation II? Why not any stories about a world where literally everyone your own age is your half-sibling? What would that mean for romance and sex?

That's an idea, sister and brother are touring a university, they go to a new science facility, and tour bomb shelter. When they come out everyone is dead.

Perhaps a slightly different scenario could be if only 90% of men were killed off, leaving a 1:10 male to female ratio. There would still be lots of women for your main character but also as other men would still exist, there would be a possibility of competition, jealousy, etc.

This idea is good though, I did think of that. Yes let's say women were untouched in the disaster. Leaving only 1:10 men.

Women degenerate into desperate, hot gangs who roam the streets looking for one of the few stray men to capture.

A man seeks safety at all costs, and most think it is to be found within the strongest of the gangs. Shootouts and massacres are common between the gangs. Some of the richer gangs, have hundreds of women and as many as a dozen men. Poorer gangs may only have one, perhaps an older or sickly one. Gangs with only one man often make arrangements with their rivals for temporary man swaps, when their man is sick or acting up.

Attitudes and customs change. A woman may in the middle of dinner, a group meeting or work go and fuck the guy in public. There is simply no time or place for seduction, intimacy, or foreplay.

Sex has been reduced to rape of the man.

why make it a disease? It could be a war.

You know, during World War 2, the Nazis only allowed men to fight. Women supported the troops, but did not fight at the front. So of course, there had been much more male casualty, compared to female casualty.

So they had plans: once the war was won, they thought about allowing the remaining guys to have more then just 1 wife. That way, they could repopulate ...

Now, think about it: the story could be placed some centuries in the past. It's a remote area, maybe a remote island. There are 2 villages, and for some reasons, they hate each other. One day, there starts a fight. All male guys (about 100) at a normal age reach their weapons and leave the village, to kill the guys from the other village, while the women and the old men (I mean like 80+) stay at home.

In the evening, 10 men come back. The women asks, where the other men are, but the only answer they get is "dead". After the initial sobbing ends, they realize they have to do something. The women try to replace the killed guys, but they can't. For most of them, stuff like chopping trees is too hard for them. And the 10 survivors can't do all the work. So they need new men. But since there are on this remote island, it is unlikely that new guys will come from other parts of the earth. So they start to think, and one of the older guys (a so called "wise man") tells them: We have only 10 guys at a good, fertile age. But we have like 100 women who would be able to receive babys ... so it is easy: each guy has to knock up 10 women. And 18 years later, we will have many new guys (and of course girls, too).

After the Paraguayan War, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paraguayan_War, so many men had been killed that polygamy was even temporarily allowed by the Catholic Church, in order to rebuild the population. It might be worth examining that societal impacts of that for your story.

Perhaps men would be considered "commodities" at that point. Through sheer numbers women automatically become the dominant sex as they pretty much have to run everything. For the future of the race it is decided that all remaining men are to be kept in very safe facilities...imprisoned. (perhaps comfortable imprisonment but imprisonment nonetheless). Their only function now is to impregnate women. They're given drugs/hormones to increase their sperm count and sex drive and perhaps something to make them more docile so that they can accept their imprisonment and their necessary sexual slavery more easily. These men are milked for their sperm so that women can be impregnated with it. But as sperm is precious not all women would be able to have even this. Only the wealthiest/most powerful women would actually have access to them sexually.

Drama: Perhaps such a story could center around a woman whose husband was taken away to one of these "breeding facilities" and she finds a way to get him free but they become fugitives. They meet women that help them along the way (to get to a place where they'll be able to be together) but some of them only do so in return for sex and breeding privileges. Maybe the main antagonist could be a cruel, selfish, and powerful woman (with just as powerful of a sense of entitlement) that's become fixated on this particular man and will stop at nothing to have her prize back, all the while pretending...or perhaps even deluding herself...that she's doing it for her country and/or human race.

Oh and personally, I rather prefer the "disease" idea to war as war might be too gradual of a loss of the male population to shock the world into such a drastic power shift. Another idea is that the men don't die but are rendered infertile and impotent. This could spin off in a lot of directions too.

I echo these sentiments. The original sounds too extreme and too wacky to me.

How about a military conflict leaves a remote fantasy village decimated of male population. The only male left are a group a monastic pacifists who regularly sterilize younger members as part of initiation. a new group is about to to take their final vows before a panicked, yet assertive, village matriarch storms in and announces that none of the village's men are coming home.
