Checking out some of the local alternative theaters, I stumbled upon this . . .

Repo, the Genetic Opera

Judging by the preview and a few other trailers I saw on YouTube, I can see why it's been graced with the title of "instant cult classic." This is the sort of thing that makes you blink twice and look thrice, as with A Clockwork Orange, Sweeney Todd and The Evil Dead, and think, WTF?

Secret and I are going to catch this on the 17th. One can't exactly have high hopes about a film as strange and disturbing as this is purported to be, but I have the feeling I'm going to be glued to the screen.

Having seen Sarah Brightman on Broadway, Secret was admittedly stunned to see the diva appear in a cinematic role such as this. It's the kind of role Tim Curry took for the film Legend, which had its own incredible and enduring charisma. Personally, I'm impressed with Anthony Stewart Head's (of Buffy fame) vocal attributes, and seeing as he is also a gifted stage and screen actor, with he and Brightman in a film, I expect some pretty stunning performances.

But again, I'm trying not to build up my expectations. ;)
