Today,Congressman Joe Walsh (IL-8) introduced the Second Amendment Protection Act that would cut off all funding to the United Nations if the United States agrees to any treaty that infringes on the constitutional rights of American citizens. The United Nations has been trying for nearly a decade to move forward with the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). This treaty poses a very real threat to the sovereignty of the United States and the Second Amendment rights of all Americans.

We should withdraw from the UN because bi or multi-lateral treaties are more effective.

Having said that, a treaty entered into by the United States has no legal effect on the States or the individual citizen unless Congress enacts enabling legislation.

The Constitution provides that the president "shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two-thirds of the Senators present concur"

And?

An international treaty doesn't make domestic law. That's exactly why enabling legislation is required - to make the provisions of the treaty, law.

The US never pays its fees to the UN anyways. Aren't you something like a billion dollars in arrears?
