After watching part of Being John Malcovitch, I had an interesting idea. Maybe it's Sci-Fi, Non-Con, Exhib, who knows... Maybe a story for each?

With an alien technology discovered on the dark side of the moon, humans gained the technology to 'get inside' another person's brain. They could see and hear everything that happened, and after some tweaks, the scientists were able to exhibit minor/basic levels of control over the mind that they were in. One catch was they they only had a few minutes (3? 10? 90?) before they were disconnected.

What would you do? Would you prefer to get into people that you know? Strangers work better for you? How much control would you like, or do you just want to watch?

The basic control would be similar to the hypnotism where the standard rule is you can't make the person do stuff in their trance they wouldn't otherwise.

What would be different if they knew the visitor was present?

Anyone feel a plot bunny jump out at them?

On a tangent: I'm reminded of the old Robert Silverberg story PASSENGERS wherein unseen aliens 'ride' humans. One who is ridden suddenly changes personality and sexuality, often perversely. The passenger rides their human for some hours or days, then leaves for a fresh target. The humans don't (or pretend not to) remember their experiences but DO know they've been ridden. This is all common; the passengers are destroying society.

So, what if you suddenly found yourself driven sexually, mindlessly to unridden humans? Would you dare tell the story?

I was a fan of, "Strange Days" with Ralph Fiennes. The tech in the movie allowed you to record your sensory inputs (touch, taste, sight, smell, & hearing) and re-experience them with a walkman-like device.

With a device that allows them to get into another person's mind and exert some measure of control, a couple of friends might decide to work together.

For example, Joe and Steve have this device. Both of them are interested in Jennifer, who has no interest in either of them.

Joe gets into Jen's mind, and directs her to want to have sex with Steve. Then another day, Steve gets into Jen's mind, and directs her to want to have sex with Joe.

Could also turn out that one of them realizes that he enjoys sex much more as a woman, and starts using the device to have sex in a woman's body. When he finds a particularly promiscuous target, he might choose not to influence her at all -- just sit back and enjoy as she has sex.

I like where this idea is going for a story...

Maybe instead of being able to control someone, the scientist figures out how to use the device to "jack in" to someone's mind for a short period and read their memories as if they were his own.

He could find out a shy and meek woman he works with has a crush on him and imagines all kinds of kinky BDSM with him.

He might find out that the guy at work that seems to make all of the women swoon is gay.

He could find out that his wife had sex with someone he despises or maybe she is cheating on him.

Eventually with some tweaking of the device he can experience the thoughts and feelings of person he is jacked into for 30 minutes or so. This is where he experiences sex as other people and other genders.

Of course to be a decent story there needs to be a down side to using this device. Maybe it somehow harms the people he jacks into or makes them have a visceral hatred for him. Or maybe he loses a bit of his own identity each time he uses it and slowly goes mad. Whatever the downside, something bad has to come out of using the device.

I think there was a movie along these lines a while back. In this movie one could record their experiences and anyone could replay them as if they were their own. In the movie the device was used to solve a murder or stop a serial killer or something.
