One of the rules of this forum, and of the entire Literotica community, is that no member may use copyrighted material which they do not have permission to use. This goes for stories, as well as pictures, movies, etc.

This morning, we received legal papers from a law firm representing a world-famous photographer. This photographer had been informed that a member of Lit was posting her images in the forum without permission. The law firm demanded that we immediately remove all of those pictures lest we face a lawsuit. Their request was not unreasonable, as they own the work which the user here posted without her (or our) knowledge.

We spend many hours each month scouring the web for people violating our authors' copyrights. We even have access to a lawyer who we've used on several occasions to go after websites who refuse to remove stories which they have published without the permission of the author(s). It is not unreasonable for other artists to expect this site to respect their rights in the same way we expect other story sites to respect our authors' rights.

This policy - forbidding the posting of copyrighted images on the Literotica forum - has always been in place. Literotica members are usually great about reporting such images when they do appear. Our Mods are also vigilant about watching for this type of material. I think that today's problem was possibly a result of me being out of town.

I just wanted to remind everyone about this policy, and ask that you keep it in mind while browsing the forum. If you see any images posted in the forum which you suspect may not belong to the poster, please click the "report this post" button and let us know. If you are a regular poster of attachments, please be sure that you are only posting your own work or work for which you have the appropriate permission.

This is a relatively isolated incident, and I'm sure it won't cause us any major problems, but I wanted to remind everyone so that I can check my mail without worrying about massive lawsuits from famous people. :)

Thanks for understanding. :)

This needs to stay at the top until it sinks in to everyones heads!!

?

I have a question...as a relative newbie to the boards and also to the web in general. how do you know if an image is copywrited or not? for example magazine covers etc. i realize that most work would have a watermark. is this the only way you can tell?

Thanks, Skye

How do I copyright my av?
;)

You don't need to. Anything which you create, (Like taking a photograph, draw something, write a story), it is automatically copyrighted to you.

People often put the little "Copyright (C) 2002" kinda stuff really just to emphasise and remind people. When it comes to enforcing copyright law, it's a murky area, and differs between countries (and probably between states).
