Please do, seems everytime when an issue really hits really close to home the fact that I am candian is through up in my face, or that the poster is austrailian{sp}, or the poster is european{sp} and it shouldn't matter to us.

Not all political threads end this way but the ones that really hit close to home get that "Your not from here" attitude thrown in thier face.

Why is it? Are you ashamed of those issues that the "outsiders" saw first and presented an option to repair before you could? Why? Why? Why?

FYI Todd...

Never once did I say you were not allowed to have an opinion, even if it is about U.S. polotics. I was merely curious as to why you felt as strongly as you did...why you got so worked up over it. Forgive me for trying to undstand how your mind works, Todd. I shall try to never do it again.

I can only speak for myself in these matters, but as an Australian, I don't really like to look at other people's politics, ours are fucked up enough without worrying about what other governments are doing to their countries.

I do however take note of American politics if it means that Australia will be involved in some way (which doesn't happen to often).

I guess in other words, what some people are saying is that you need to worry about Canadian politics before you do American.

Then again I do see your point as Canada is so close to America, but again I have no clue (and really don't want to know) if this effects what your country decides on or not.

Say whatever it is on your mind Todd and don't worry what others say, learn to ignore the comments and just say it anyway.

Good Luck :)

Oh shit .... I've missed something.

Please ignore my last post if it's going to cause shit, I only just came on and this was the first thread I came into.

I'll just be over here taking my foot out of my mouth.

I don't ever recall getting upset with you for posting an opinion about canadian politics.

Of course nothing ever happens up here.

Good question.

Fair enough.

You Really Want an Answer to that Question?

...I suspect not, but I'm going to give you one anyway because I'm feeling ornery tonight.

First of all, the barrage of "opinions" that you plaster on the board aren't yours, they're the property of the deep thinkers at rightwingnutjobs.com or thedailylynchmob.org. Leaving aside the intellectual fraudulence of this practice, did you ever stop and think that it may dispose people, even those who might agree with you, to want you to stop?

As a (presumably) thinking human being, you can have all the opinions your little cerebral cortex can conjure up. If you contend you should be able to express them on this board, no real argument there, either. If, however, you think that they should be worshipped as holy writ merely because they sprung from the "cut" and "paste" buttons on your browser, then you're delusional. When you throw dogshit, expect to get some thrown back at you.

To get to the heart of the matter, the real problem is where you aim your pathetic little popgun. If you, as a Canadian, have an opinion about the U.S. government or U.S. business or any other representative facet of our society and the way it conducts itself in the world, then throw down all you want. This country does some damn stupid shit sometimes that affects the rest of the world and I don't care if you're from Canada or Cameroon, I'd defend your right to say so.

But the truth of the matter, Todd, is that you have singled out not the government, not the military, not business and industry, or any other quasi-official body, but rather a group of citizens who have certain mainstream ideas about how their country ought to be run. Since you don't live, work, vote, pay taxes or have any standing at all in the United States, how dare you claim the right to criticize half of its citizens for their political beliefs? Frankly, buckaroo, my political beliefs are every bit as important to me as your putative religious beliefs are to you and I don't take your insults lightly.

Maybe the problem is that you're insufficently gifted to realize just how infuriating your onslaught of purloined calumny can be. You freely post presumably copyrighted material from dubious, unidentified sources that maligns liberals as "communists," equates belief in stemming the tide of handguns with encouraging rape and throws around terms like "socialist" with fact-free abandon. Frankly, I don't think you'd know a socialist if one bit you in the ass.

You see, Todd, I am a Democrat and a liberal. I love my country and I do what I can to make the best place it can be, but I do it my way. Other Americans have other opinions and that's why we have debates and polls and demonstrations and elections. In other words, it's like family -- we fight it out amongst ourselves and nobody else has the right to butt in.

Frankly, your slanderous nonsense has pissed me off for a long time but I decided to ignore it. However, your self-pitying plea on the board tonight finally lit my short fuse. I don't what the hell motivates you, but if you think that you're contributing anything to worthwhile discourse, I suggest you think again. Anybody can have an opinion, but only opinions based on some shred of fact, espoused by somebody with a reasonable right to do so, are in any way meaningful. Chew on that for a while.

Todd

Everyone is allowed to have an opinion, so your question is forever destined to go nowhere, well at least not anywhere 'nice'. Bear in mind that you are posting on a Board which has a majority of Americans (as far as I can tell). This doesn't mean that they will all agree to disagree with you, or that they will be 'more right' than you about any matter, of course. But it does seem that the direction which most of your posts take isn't one that's likely to garner wide-spread support from anyone, least of all those from the US.

We all have opinions, those were a couple of mine. Relax.

:)

I never try to have an opinion about anything outside of where I live, I know that sounds bad but New Zealand is really screwed up. I mean some of the things that we have done in the past and probably will do in the future are really really screwed up. I some times have opinions on some other countries but I always like to keep them to myself because I realize that in doing so I could end up hurting someone or making someone hate my guts.

I realize that sounds like a cowardly thing to do but it is just me.... never make anyone angry.

The fact that all nations have "screwed up" means that there will always be people out there who 'hate your guts', you just haven't met them all yet [none of us have]! Expressing your opinion gives them a chance to tell you just how much they hate you. Ignore them. Expressing your opinion also gives others the chance to have reasoned debates with you. Don't ignore them. :)

I guess what I'm trying to say is: "Make some noise!" :D

Well, what I am really saying is that as a New Zealander I don't piss off anyone because every other nation in this world could blow my little country off the face of this planet. I like the idea of making some noise Ally and would readily do it, given the right chance.

Hell, even the Australians hate us and they are the closest things we have to neighbors but with the way that we are I can see where they stand.

I value all opinions.

Some more than others. ;)

I hear what you're saying Angelius, but I think you're being a bit extreme ...

Okay.... I have finished with my little rant

Forgive me for that one everybody.

Yeah but...

...you Kiwis have got a great Rugby Team...

Incidentally do you know why they're called the All Blacks.

Like most people I used to think it was because of the kit they wear but I read in this book of Rugby history that when they came to the UK for their first tour in 1800 and something their defence was so good that England couldn't get through them.

The local newspaper meant to report that they played like a team of all backs but an l crept in and it was printed as all blacks.

To be known as such ever since...

Good eh?...

Yup, ignore has been my approach, too. Why let yourself get sucked in and get all riled up?

Don't get me wrong...

I disagree with most everything Todd posts.

But I think Americans need to know what other people think of us, and I think it is great that they can enter into our dialogs because this is the best way of learning about ourselves- to see ourselves through other people's eyes.

America is habitually guilty of having her head up her ass. I have had more than one non-American point this out to me, and I tend to agree.

I don't really think that Todd's nationality has anything to do with it. It's just a matter of abrasiveness.

I have never read anything that actually IS Todd's opinion. As Thomas Paine pointed out, Todd merely uses the cut & paste feature very well. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion & while I love my country, I realize we are not anywhere near perfect. I think Todd is probably more intelligent than his posts would indicate, I just wish he would give his own opinions on anything, whether it be politics, religion or anything else. It is very easy to accept something printed on a web site or in any kind of newspaper, it is another thing entirely to listen to both sides of an issue & then form an opinion.

I think that Todd's opinion have nothing to do with our country's borders but have more to do with universal problems. I really am no expert on Canadian politics, but I would imagine they have similar if not identical problems. Drugs, education, liberal/conservative.........etc............I think Todd has a right to voice his opinion and many just completely disagree. Does that mean no one should voice there opinion on any other country's policies because I've seen many of you do so.

No one has ever said that Todd doesn't have a right to his own opinion, what people are saying is that the articles that he posts aren't his own opinions. I would be very interested in hearing what Todd thinks, unfortunately he doesn't tell us what he thinks. Using the cut & paste feature on a computer to put up a post that is an article written by someone else is not the same thing as writing a post that reflects your own thoughts & ideas.

I was in a Russian chatroom

And this one Russki who was not at all fond of America posted:

"YANKEE GO HOME!"

I informed him that I was at home. Sitting right in front of my computer.
