You had the combo record player, radio and 8 track all in one big doofus unit...

Buying a car deck that had to have Dolby, but never using it cause it made everything sound under water...

Looking at the album cover and memorizing the lyrics and all the liner notes while it played...

You actually considered buying a reel-to-reel as part of your system...

To make a cassette you placed your tape recorder next to the speaker...

You finally spent the bucks to get the 'Digitally Remastered from Master Tape' Floyd Album and couldnt understand why it didnt sound any better on your shitty home system...

Wanting to buy that Roxy Music album because of the two (almost) naked girls on front...

Saving your bucks to buy Maxells 'metal' tape...

You bought the Who's Quadrophenia but couldnt figure how to get you stereo to play in quad mode...

It pissed you off when someone didnt put the album back in its sleeve...

That perfect crackle scratch as the album started and between songs...

Remembering the lyrics differently because it skipped over half a verse...

Using any old tape to make music tapes and still hearing the underlying gibberish from the previous recording...

Taping songs from the radio...

Buying an album just for the cover...

Siblings that took no regard to your collection, or was the other way around?

You cleaned a record before playing it...

Those round worn circles on the album covers represented a very used collection..

Some of your friends actually built their own speakers...

Cassette tapes being eaten...

You had a personal attachment to your album collection!

I Still have a personal attachment to my record collection LOL

I still buy them and head off to the used record store as often as I can. I've got over 150 albums and take great care of them. I'm even converting some of them over to CD with my computer.

Oh yeah, I thought they were so much better... but then, my car radio ate them anyway.

I also remember listening to records that had been left in a car and they were slightly warped - just enough to make them sound funny.

You just hoped the turntable arm wouldnt jump :)

what about taping pennies to the needle to keep it from skipping or was I the only poor kid in the neighborhood?

I still have the player I bought years ago. (2 tape decks, record player and radio)

Tended to clear up that "misheard lyrics" problem. :)

That perfect crackle scratch as the album started and between songs...
Can you believe some kids these days hate listening to records because of that "noise"? Kind of liked the "crackle pop" that told you the record was over. Gave it a definitive end.

I did that LOL. But that was before I started taking better care of my albums :)

Hey, can I mention The Bay City Rollers in this thread? ;)
s-a-t-u-r-d-a-y night! I think we called them the gay city blowers back then :)

did you see the 'behind the music' special on them?

I guess I missed that. I don't watch much TV. I remember seeing them on some Saturday morning cartoon show, I think it was called The Kids Super Power Hour back in the '70's LOL

on another note, I have 4 of their albums :)

I missed that one, but I did see the "KC and the Sunshine Band" one. Wow. Time has NOT been kind.

I taped pennies to the needle too - my record player was a cheap one.

Now I'm reminded of a "1976" compilation album I had that had "Saturday Night" and "Fly, Robin, Fly" on it. Everything was great until my sister rolled it off the pool table and a big hunk of the record broke off. *sigh*

;)

I had '22 Fabulous hits' with Rod Stewart 'twisting the night away', Sweet, Elton John, etc...

it was my very first album

Sweet was awesome :) Love is Like Oxygen is a classic, and has anyone heard Def Leppard's remake of Action?

You cleaned a record before playing it...

I love the ritual of this. Taking the sleeve out of the cover, because they had to turned a half turn so dust wouldn't get in, putting the record on the turntable. Turning it on, using the cleaner brush with just a drop of cleaner, putting the arm down in just the right place. I miss that with CD's.

It was like changing from rolling a joint to smoking from a bong.
Sigh...

I talk to other guitar players sometimes and they have no idea who Sweet is. Then I play a few tunes and they know it right away.

Action
Love Is Like Oxygen
Ballroom Blitz
Little Willy
Fox On The Run

BTW, Girlschool does a killer version of Fox On The Run

Not my friends, my sisters LOL
In fact, last Christmas we were doing Karoake at 1 of my sisters house and they decided to do a tribute to me, for all the times they were forced to listen and watch me LOL. They sang Bohemian Rhapsody and butchered it good LOL. OUCH my ears

lol, I completely understand.;) I got really brave once and decided to sing in the local pageant. All was well until I realized I had just cleared my throat (nervousness) into the microphone, mid song. In the huge auditorium this was held, it was like thunder!:D
Cured me nicely.;)
