What is their best album to you and why?

I noticed in the desert island thing a lot of people picked Green, and that surprised me.

I think mine's Automatic... because it just fits so well together and you are enveloped by the music. Closely followed by UP (Yes, I know everone hated it) BUT not me, OK.

I love REM!

I've got... let's see... eight of their discs here.

My favorite a total toss-up between Out Of Time and Automatic For The People. It's some kind of compulsion for me but i have to listen to them both, back-to-back. Have to. Can't just listen to one of them without the other. Radio Son, Losing My Religion, Everybody Hurts, and Nightswimming (gods i love that song) all belong together.

At this very moment, though, i have Reveal up and running, Imitation of Life playing, and i gotta say that it's a really cool song. Definitely underplayed on the radio (as in - i've never even heard it played on the radio).

Addendum: I'll Take The Rain is also very VERY good song from the Reveal disc.

Automatic is my fave album, but I chose Green because of the memories attached to it. Since I could only pick 10 CD's (mean mean miles) I had to exclude something.

Cym... Nightswimming is like an anthem for me... gives me just the most amazing/melancholy feeling when I listen to it.

I thought Monster and Up sucked btw... they're just not the same. I remember in an interview with them when I was in college (so like a thousand years ago) they said they were going to stop making albums when they started sucking because they didn't want to turn into Chicago and just keep going for the sake of making albums. I think they should've done it.
