Heard about this on the radio today. Iirc, they said that they're not moving the actual city, they're relocating the capital functions elsewhere.

Jakarta, or at least the parts of it literally built on a swamp, will eventually become an engineerical nightmare to maintain, has to be scaled down and the people and businesses there will have to gradually simmer off into neighboring regions. But the national government is skidaddling away far ahead of that.

Indeed. And the whole thought that a 10 mil metropolis will eventually decline back to bog status is fasinating in itself.
