I kind of like the taboo of a couple made up of 2 people who's nationalities/ethnicities are enemies, or just have a lot of bad blood between them even if they're not official enemies.

For example,

*Israeli/Palestinian
*Chinese/Japanese
*Armenians/Turks
*Russian/Ukrainians
*South African Blacks & Whites

I also like the idea of it being a gay, versatile, couple, b/c that way the relationship can be balanced so it's not like your story is putting one nationality over the other.

Are there any stories out there like this one? Or would someone want to write one?

I remember seeing an episode of, "The Twilight Zone" where a woman in uniform scavenges through the ruins of a city for food. A man in a different tattered uniform comes upon her and knocks her out taking whatever she found and eating it himself. She wakes up, attacks him, and a cat/mouse game of survival ensues with each holed up in different buildings. He tries to make ammends, (as they're apparently the last two survivors of the war) and she relents, putting herself into a nice dress to attract him. They don't speak the same language, but figure they're all each other has and get together in the end.

I remember that Twilight Zone ep. The man was Charles Bronson, and the woman was Elizabeth Montgomery.

You youngsters can ask your grandparents who they were.

Yes you're right. She was alot better looking then before she changed her hair for "Bewitched ".

I assume you enjoyed Romeo and Juliet? Or stories based on such?

I'll throw this in for you;

*North Korea / South Korea

*Croatia (Bosnian) / Serbia (Bosnian)

Or, how about:

Democrat/Republican

Evangelical Christian/Dope head

Tree hugger/Industrialist

Tea Bagger/Wall Street occupier

The star-crossed lovers concept works on a variety of levels, and has been popular for hundreds of years.

Still, the pairing I would find most interesting is an Islamic female and a Conservative Jew, written by someone with intimate knowledge of both--someone who could rise above the cliche and present a new twist on the subject based upon detailed descriptions of their lifestyles and environments.

The newer suggestions do have the difference that they have a common language. Depending on how you want the story to go that may or may not be an advantage.

Of course there are already many such stories about the local population versus invaders, not least those set in the USA.
