Rejected Story - 4 Months after initial publication

Usually I use the search, but I'm not quite sure how to find my specific problem from other rejection posts.

I posted a story in September 2021 with no issue. Then this past week (Feb 2022), it was rejected for underage sexual content. I've dealt with this kind of rejection before on other stories, but it's always when I first try to publish a story (and the issue is always ambiguous writing on my part, which I miss initially and then fix before re-submitting without issue). So, I am little confused as to why this happened 4 months after the fact. It's been about three days since I re-submitted with the explanation that it is a story set in college and that there is no underage sexual content, however I don't know how long the review period is for a scenario like this. Has anyone had an experience like this and is there anyone else I can contact to get this resolved?

From your description, someone must have reported it for underage. It remains a question of whether Laurel reviewed it then and agreed (in which case there may be more of a discussion or adjustment to do) or just knee-jerked dropped it. You seem to have responded the best way. It may naturally take a few more days for it to appear in the file again if what you have done has taken care of the issue.

The story must have been reported by someone. It happens from time to time.

The process you have followed (resubmission with an explanation) is the best one to follow. It will go before Laurel as if it had been rejected in the first place, and will be reviewed as if it was an edit. Expect a week or so, and it will either be rejected again, or go live.

That's the process, best to follow it - there isn't anyone else to go to.

Thanks for the responses. I'll admit, I haven't re-read it in a while, but I will go back through and make sure there is no ambiguous writing while I wait.

I had something similar happened to me. I had a sentence on page 4 of a story that mentioned how the MFC looked in a nightshirt when she was fourteen. That was considered underage sexual content. I re-wrote the sentence and got the story re-published.

Yes, I had a story a while back where I had 20-something narrator mention some fantasy "he'd had since he was a teenager" and I had to go back and edit it out. I know rules are rules, but I had to chuckle at the silly conceit that no one has ever had a fantasy flit through their head until the day they turned 18...

That's not the conceit, though. The site doesn't require that we pretend all our characters were pure-minded virgins until 18, only that we don't discuss their pre-18 sex lives (including fantasies) in any depth.

It's quite possible to post stories which mention that a character got pregnant at 16, or was abused as a minor, as long as you don't get into detail.

That's good to know for at least one of the characters in the novel I'm finishing up. Thx Bramblethorn

FWIW, if this is the one you were asking for feedback about recently, the detail you had in that character bio would probably be more than would be accepted here - anything past "I was abused by XXX as a child" is pushing it.

Oh, yeah, no need to go into detail about the event beyond it being a family friend that molested her after she had developed physically into womanhood. I don't even see it of any narrative value to apply an age to the incident. The reader can read into it the pain that would be inflicted.

What you are saying does not really seem inconsistent with my original assessment. Your point is that an author can imply, sideways, that a character had sex as a teenager by referencing consequences they experienced. My point is that an author is not allowed to mention, even in passing, that a character had fantasies before the age of 18. And that struck me as an amusing mental contortion. But it's fine. That detail was never of consequence to what I was writing, it was just a throwaway line that seemed so natural I didn't even think about it.

Yeah, gotta be careful these days. Those throw aways will get cancel culture on your rear end in quite literally the time it take someone to call you a racist or sexist on social media. I totally get it though, it seems ridiculous that you can say it verbally to your friends and no one gets upset. Say it on here and you get banned.

I've found the same people who get on their horse about under age and morality-in general-not talking solely about here-are the same ones that defended the movie Cuties, cause you know, somehow that was okay.
Cancel culture is the same as religious zealotry, whatever they're condemning damn straight is what they're into behind closed doors.

Exactly LoveCraft! It's like how there is this huge craze by all these men to pressure women into shaving their privates, which is going to make them look pre-pubescent if there is no hair down there, yet god forbid if you were to accuse them of being pedophiles. My god that is a step too far!

I may have misunderstood, but your previous post gave me the impression you weren't just "mentioning that a character had fantasies before 18" but giving some description of what those fantasies were.

It's been a little over a week and still no resolution. Do these reported stories go to a different list that no one checks?
It almost feels like I should just repost it and explain what happened to have it back up within three days.

I feel like I'm being ignored. I posted a second story and it is still pending beyond the usual 3 days it would normally take. Is there anyone I can message to get this resolved or to get answers. This is frustrating.

Ha ha! I'm having to wait about 2 weeks for submissions to get approved. Enjoy the break.

I, too, had a story rejected some time after it was posted. But I don't know how to find out why it was rejected. Where should I look?

You should have received a rejection notice on your control panel, couched as a series of questions. It's a generic notice, so there will be nothing specific to your story - you have to figure it out and fix it.

If it's been reported and taken down, it means someone has found something they think breaches a content policy - it's up to you to find what that that breach might be.

Rejected stories get referred back to you, with a rejection notice. If you don't do anything to fix it and resubmit, it stays down
