I started writing for Lit as JackieH. I wrote in the first person and my stories attracted some venomous responses, to the extent that I shut down the email account I was using and closed my Lit account by entering a password I knew I couldn't remember.

Since then I've had a couple of immensely kind emails which have made me think again. What I'd really like to do is 'start again', reposting some of the original stories completely rewritten and with different titles. I can see how to edit previous submissions, but that's less drastic than what I'm trying to do. In summary, effectively, I want to recreate my original work under a new name, with different titles. An extraordinarily lovely correspondent (thanks 'Glasgowgirl') tells me that this forum might have some helpful suggestions about how this can be achieved, since many emails to the Lit Help address have produced no responses. I hope she's right!

I'd much appreciate any advice, in anticipation ...

Thanks

Jackie J

Some of the best advice I can give is to laugh off or ignore the venom. There are genuinely some wonderful people here, and it's worth wading through all the stuff they might send to get to the really insightful, helpful advice that's available.

Good luck, and I hope you find what you're looking for.

I do know my tenure on this site and the Author's Hangout specifically helped me become a better writer.

And don't post in the "loving wives" category. It's the most badly misnamed cat on lit.

Hi Jackie. If you're looking for information on the mechanics of how to remove the old stories so you can post the new ones, I suggest that you send a PM to Laurel, one of the site admins. Just click on User CP at the top of the page, click on "send new message," and type Laurel in the To box. She's the best person to help you fix your problem. E-mail doesn't work with the site admins-too much spam. While you're there, you might want to turn on Private Messages. Just click on Options and check the box next to "Enable Private Messaging."

If you're looking for help editing these stories, I suggest a thread in the Editor's Forum. They usually want to know category, number of words, and what sort of help you want (grammar, spelling, story flow, etc.).

Welcome to the AH. :rose:

If you want 'how to write a story' kind of help, then the AH is the right place to come to. If you want to know how to get in touch with the site admins, then send a private message to Laurel, not an email. Good luck with the reincarnation. :rose:

Jackie, so glad to see you back! Glasgowgirl told me you were doing this. Brave lass! You know where I am if you want to chat privately, but I'm happy to do so here.

Um, and, damppanties, I can assure you that Jackie is less in need of advice on storywriting that most folk on this site!

Sure, sorry, I was just trying to encourage Jackie, but she really is a powerful writer!

I want to thank everyone for their helpfulness here and to freshface in particular for this advice - I followed it as suggested and within hours Laurel had done what I'd been trying unsuccessfully for a couple of weeks to accomplish.

I'm really grateful!
