We can no more keep unwanted immigrants out of the U.S. than we can keep out smuggled drugs. It is impossible. It would remain impossible if we gave ICE a budget comparable to the DoD's. It can be slowed, but not stopped. So long as foreigners have conditions at home to run away from, and even the hope of opportunities here to run to, they will find a way in. The demographic changes populist-nationalists fear will happen, and will eventually change the demographics even of the whitest and reddest rural counties.

It is impossible.

With (D)'s actively subverting any effort to enforce our democracy and borders I agree.

If that weren't a problem it wouldn't be that hard.

It would remain impossible if all Dems converted to the populist-nationalist POV.

Not at all, many nations have and enforce their borders with an extremely high degree of effectiveness.

No reason we couldn't.... except anti-American (D)'s subverting our democracy and borders.

Hungary and North Korea are not models we want to follow -- and they have much shorter borders to secure. Anyway, it's not even really a matter of border security -- most immigrants not legally resident in the U.S. entered legally and overstayed their visas.

Not even Trump's Wall would have made any statistically significant difference, in a world where foreigners have access to ladders and shovels.

This is what matters. However, the demographic changes that will make the most difference electorally are generational, not ethnic.

Personally, I have no problem with people wanting to live in America. They're welcome as far as I am concerned.

However, what we will need to focus on is the entitlements and welfare programs - they need to go.

Come to America! Welcome! Good luck to you. Now get a job.

So long as I am not being taxed to give support to freeloaders, I am completely happy for people to come here and lend this country their strength and labor and innovations.

Not an issue to take care of both, your lies in the face of reality notwithstanding of course.

"Speed limit" is all that can be done here.

Liar liar, pants on fire.

Trumps wall was weak sauce.

Yup, end all federal welfare programs and I would be happy to have a "Check in at the door and fill out your paperwork." immigration policy.

The Nordic countries that the far left like you loves to hold up as a model, is very strict on immigration. As a matter of fact, it's one of the reasons that for social democracy being successful.

Every other country, including much of Europe has an identity that most of its people will defend. Here, some people are flat out rooting for the disintegration of any identity You all make no sense.

American identity is under no threat from immigration, not if it were at five times its present level.

But will (R)'s do anything about it in the meantime, or are they just going to keep being progressives doing the speed limit??

They'll close what Joe hasn't been forced to close on his own. They will finish building the wall.

You will never live to see that wall finished no matter how the elections go.

Oh, shut up with the hilarious nonsense. We are still paying those contractors to not build the wall. The materials are still piled up at the border and in yards adjacent to the border.

Why is your response to simply just deny anything that doesn't agree with your world view? Rarely if ever do you even provide any facts. Especially after you say that immigration will change the whitest most rural parts of America.

That would not threaten American identity either. No previous wave of immigration ever did, despite much fearmongering to that effect at the time in each instance. Immigrants assimilate. Their children grow up to be just as impeccably American as any Anglo-Saxon from the original 13 states.

And there they will stay until they turn to dust or salvage.

The next (R) administration. :D

Even if the next R administration is Trump's and he has a Pub Congress, the funding will not be disbursed. It never was last time those circumstances prevailed, and there are good reasons for that.

Why not?

And even if not they may not need to be...just a green light to do it. Plenty of folks in the border states would be happy to raise money.

IF they were smart they would use the military to secure the border the second they took power, so people could see the benefit of controlled immigration.
