First... did you lock your doors last night???

Second, if you locked your doors, and you know who has been in your house, it might be a bomb!!!

Third,,, make sure that there is no large suspicious packages in or around the fridge... (this includes those whole fryers!!!)

(just what you needed on an early morning weekend,,, a smart ass!!!)

If it has an automatic ice maker it might make clicking, buzzing, or even clunking type noises.

It does have one but the sounds aren't coming from there. I can't even find a site to tell me how old the thing is!

Clicks

It could be an automatic defrost cycle as it goes through and starts and stops. Buy a thermometer and read the temperature in the refrigerator.

Hi,

I bought my fridge about 8 years ago. It's a frost-free model and the instruction book mentioned that I should not get concerned about odd noises. And, sure enough, it does make strange noises as it goes through its cycle! Maybe see if there's anything on the manufacturer's website or give them a call. It might be totally normal for your fridge. I hope it's got a lot more life yet :D

Does it click-hum-click? Or just click? If it clicks, hums for a couple of seconds, then clicks again and goes silent, the compressor is trying to start, but can't for some reason. Have you had a power failure recently? If the power dies for just a few seconds while the fridge is running, the compressor won't be able to start against the pressure it had built up when running previously.
Unplug it for 10 minutes, then plug it back in again. If it's still doing it, the compressor could be shot, in which case you might as well buy a new fridge.

Having said that, if it's just doing random clicks, I'd be much more inclined agree with pretty much everybody else, to think it's going through it's defrost cycle. (Provided it's a frost free, that is...)

Keep an eye on the temperature inside over the next day or so. If it seems to be getting warmer, you'll either need service or a new fridge. It's pretty rare for the compressor to go, but it could be something to do with the electrics and controls feeding it.

I've seen a fridge where the door light switch broke, which stopped the entire fridge from working. Stupid, I know. But it was wired so that when you opened the fridge when it was running, the fan blowing the cold air into the fridge would stop, so you wouldn't get a blast of cold air in the face. Well, it always figured the door was open, so the compressor was running, but the fan wasn't moving the cold air to where it was supposed to be. All it did was freeze up the evaporator coils something fierce. I pulled the switch out, twisted the wires together, and it worked great.

Hopefully if it needs a repair, it won't be anything much more complicated than that.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!! I will monitor the temp and keep an ear on it. It was a click then hum then click. I will try the unplug option too. I appreciate your time!!
Hugs!
