Welcome to the fictitious Western town of Red Mesa. It is 1861, the Civil War has just broken out, and residents have to decide whether to stay loyal to the Union or listen to Confederate agents seeking to recruit volunteers for a campaign in the New Mexico Territory (which includes both New Mexico and present-day Arizona). It is a hot, dry, desert town with one well, and plenty of thirsty men and women seeking to drink more than just water. There are mostly white men, Mexicans, and American Indians living in the town, along with some European immigrants.
Pick a character, good, bad, or ugly (my attempt at Clint Eastwoodesque humor).
They can be men or women. Just remember: a frontier town like this has a disproportionate number of wild men and women. There will presumably be at least one saloon and one bordello.
My character:
James Fairfax. 30 years old. From Charles Town, Virginia. A staunch Southern sympathizer, he has not overtly done anything yet to back the Confederacy. He's the town's judge, since no one else in town knows enough law to do the job. He's also single and fond of prostitutes and whiskey. Hates gambling, however. Has dirty blond hair and dark blue eyes. Is 5 ft. 10 in. tall. Heavy build and 200 lbs. even.
