Where are the COMMUNISTS in this story?

I mean, the AMERICAN Communists. You would expect Soviet invaders to hunt them up and use them as public spokespersons.

In fact, we don't see the Soviets doing ANYTHING to turn this conquered territory into a Communist society. They simply act like foreign conquerors, like the Romans, with no political agenda more sophisticated than that.

At the end of WWII, the Soviets hunted up Eastern European Communists who had survived the German occupation (easy to find -- they always were in communication with Moscow, when they could communicate safely), and put them in charge of the new Communist governments. Wouldn't they do something like that?

I haven't seen the 2012 remake -- is it any different, in this regard?

Here's another nitpick, not political:

RUSSIAN SOLDIER 1: What is a wolverine?

RUSSIAN SOLDIER 2: An animal, like a badger, but fierce. It is also the name of the local sports collective.

But THERE ARE WOLVERINES IN RUSSIA. There must be a word for them in the language.

Just watched it, and, no. The invaders don't even hunt up Korean-Americans as spokespersons -- most of their collaborators are white.

And it's even stupider than the original! NORTH KOREANS?! They ain't even COMMUNISTS any more!

Chinese would have been more plausible. But apparently that would have raised poltical complications for the studio.

But at least the Norks, unlike the Soviets in the original, do take the trouble to broadcast Communist propaganda and say "We're here to help you" and stuff.

It may or may not be significant that "glutton" is another word for "wolverine."

OK, it's not. But partisans sure do get hungry!

NORTH KOREANS... is this a comedy ? They would be so excited by electricity and food they would surrender.

I wonder how many Americans joined militia clubs expecting to live through a "Red Dawn" scenario, only to find out the only enemy the club had in mind was the USG.
