Hey, are we allowed to mention recreational drug use in a story? For example, my story contains a line or two about cocaine. How about a passing mention of pot? Is it allowed?

Most definitely. My story series 'Crazy Cornelius & the Magic Pills' is about a dysfunctional family who are bat-shit crazy anyway, and go on some bizarre road trip after one of the sons plays a practical joke by slipping some new type of party drug into their dinner (while taking it himself) and they all end up suffering paranoid delusions about monsters, ghosts, UFOs, aliens and demons chasing them.
And in my story series 'Trailer Trash Teen Hates Rules' the main character Breanna steals her older brother's marijuana and then taunts him about it, challenging him to 'call the cops'.

Yes, it's allowed.
Just don't do what one writer did, though. He got more into writing about his heroin addiction than he did about his erotica, and ended up with one of the bleakest, most non-erotic stories I've ever read. I'm not even sure if I finished it.
