REBUILD WTC TALLER??

What? Rebuild a taller tower so there can be a taller target? Once again place America's financial hub all in the same place? Sounds kind of ridiculous to me.

Who would want to work there? Chances are the building would be haunted (if you believe in that sort of thing).

Put up a memorial and let it rest.

Eh. A writer who uses a phrase like this "The reason liberals prefer a park to luminous skyscrapers is that they are not angry." tells me right off the bat that she doesn't konw what a liberal is, that she has no problem with easy, research-free labeling of giant swaths of people, and that she has her finger on the pulse-beat of no one.

In the end New York will build 1) what is right for the area, 2) what the owners of the property want, and 3) what is economically feasible. Coming up with the "perfect" national monument in the middle of the most expensive lot of real estate in the world will be far, far down the list of "things to be done with Ground Zero". There will be (and must be) some sort of memorial and symbolism, to be sure, but in the end, it's Wall Street, it's Manhattan, it needs to function. And if that means a 60 story building instead of 110, then that's what it will be, and if you don't like it you can move your fucking truck back to Queens.

building a taller set of towers is just teasing the gorilla in the monkey house

Buildings should be built on a human scale - Buildings > 5 or 6 stories are a form of Hubris. I always want nature to have the best monuments - man should build for men and not for egos.

Don't be such a dope. Putting up a park doesn't let Osama win. What are you, in the third grade?

I'm not a scared ninny like you.

I would not let a third rate extreme arab nut dicate how I run my bussiness but apparently you would.

That was an elementary school thing to say. Every time you let an extremist make you react like a piqued child, you lose.

i think its distastful to build over the graves of 2800 people who were murdered

That's exactly why I would buld the towers larger. Enstein

LOL Vampyre, you're being a dolt. I have not advocated building bigger buildings or a park. I've said that New York will build what New York needs to build. You're not hearing me because you've gone all red faced over the Taliban sticking your pigtails in ink. Call down. Grow up. It's a serious world with serious problems that won't be solved by building a 200 story middle finger.

Whole point of terrorism is to disrupt how a society normally functions. Go ahead and put up a park.

Osama wins.
ok so it would seem you might tend to believe everything you read.
IF the owners, as DCL said, decide that is what's most needed, then how did the attackers win? There are memorials all over the world symbolic of tragedies, on both a humanitarian and military scale. Does that mean the Japanese won for there is a memorial to Pearl Harbor, apparently so using your reasoning.

How are we so sure the reasoning behind 9/11 was to disrupt "how a society normally functions". What if by chance it was done merely to prove they could, like a telethon so to speak? Is it not at all plausible that this crime was an attempt to rally the Islamic Nations against the US, thusly said nations rallying around Bin Ladens personal belief, getting his group more financing and weapons?

Am I espousing these were the intentions, not at all. I am merely stating what we read and hear can be dangerously underestimating the mind of a madman. Better to keep an open mind than your head in the sand after reading/hearing spin doctors.

Build it bigger, taller, and better. A park or non-functional monument is an insult to the memory of the prople who worked there. A living, working, functional building is the best monument possible.

"Vampyre, you're being a dolt."
Now whose being juvenile? LOL

"I've said that New York will build what New York needs to build"

New York should not allow political correctness to influence the reconstruction in NYC. I am responding to the majority on this thread apparently want that.

Take out "Bigger" and "Taller" and you're close to making sense.

You don't commit lower Manhattan to an extra 60 stories of air space just so you can puff your chest out. If you want to look tough shove something big down your pants, not up Chamber Street.

You are right!!!

The dead would want the living to move on.

bigger, taller....its just that american arrogance that pisses people off in the first place

What's wrong with 200 story buildings?

Have you ever thought of all the additional office space and revenue you could generate with taller ,spacious buildings?

Am I about to sound unpatriotic?

All this talk about rebuilding and not letting the terrorists win just causes people to not think about the fact that the American Way may not be the best way. Contrary to popular belief, these people didn't attack us because they were crazy or just jealous of our freedoms. There's a lot more going on here.

The media keeps us whipped into a frenzy by demonizing a group of people and calling them terrorists. I believe "terrorists" are what the big army calls the little army.

For us to fold our arms and ignore what's happening around us, to keep pushing for bigger buildings and bigger symbols of capitalism doesn't help to foster any understanding between anybody. That's how kids act on the playground.

As long as we continue to act like other groups of people aren't even human and continue along our current path we will always be targets of attack and will always be scratching our heads wondering why.

So you believe the USA deserves what it got?

Because the rest of the world is not as rich or as powerful as the USA, you believe that 3000 innocent people deserve to be brutally murdered?

No you sound like you are blaming the USA for the acts of a madman.

You forgot the option that Ann Coulter is an idiot.

Whatever may replace the towers will be economically feasible. Right now, no additional office space is required in NY, especially downtown. Back office space has moved to NJ where the rents are cheaper and the front office people have moved to midtown. This happened over ten years ago.

For the most part, the only financial workers in downtown NY are operational people that need to be there, proximate to the exchanges.

If a massive office complex is built, what company would rent the space (a) considering employee safety and (b) not economically necessary. What financial institution would finance the construction? Who would insure it?

As DCL stated, NY will build what NY needs and when they need it.
