How often do you reboot to fix some problem with Windows?

Problems might include a complete system lockup, the mouse stops responding, a program freezes, the system slows down too much, crashes, etc.

Please post saying what you voted and which version of Windows you use as well.

I reboot once a day or so. When I start my computer it's only about 80% of the resources free, when you run stuff it slowly drops down and I reboot when it's close to 50%. I run win98

My mouse freezes, average twice a week.

Otherwise no probs.

Windows ME.

i reboot about ever 12 days. depending on howmany programs I have running.

I usualy have about 18-20 programs running (yes i'm that damn psycho)

right now I have 36 programs open (some are duplicate progs) so this should last about 8-9 days, then reboot.

I use Win98 too, and unfortunately I can't change to another OS because of various reasons. It sucks royally. That's all I'm going to say. :)

Halo :rose:

i usually reboot twice a week. i don't think winME has ever frozen on me, but it gets sluggish and runs out of memory and such after about 3 days.

Well since upgrading to XP I have noticed the system hangs quite a lot and occasionally goes crazy forcing me to use System Restore to sort it out about twice a month.

Im not sure if its XP or some dodgy RAM I put in though (I added loads of RAM after getting XP). Either way its annoying but much better than ME! :D

I would use Linux but im stupid and cant be assed with things like that! :D

Halo :rose:

Congratulations on 1,000 posts. :)

I am not trying to advocate a different operating system, I am just trying to compare other people's experiences with my own. :)

After cleaning up my computer.. reformatting.. partitioning and adding more memory.

I reboot my computer NEVER.

I don't have any problems with slow downs, freeze ups or the mouse not responding.

I run Windows 98se

I run Windows 98se

How long has it been since you cleaned up your computer?

Both of my computers get shut down every night. I am on a dilap connection and dont have anything that I need to keep running, so this has been the easiest method for me. I have heard from several sources that Windows(any version) is not meant to run all the time so it eventually becomes unstable and locks up, slows down ect. I don't know if this is true or just a myth but I get fewer lockups this way. Even with shutting down every night I still have to reboot if I use the computers for a long period of time during the day. Just another way these "Personal Confusers" are always pissing me off.

My pc will constantly freeze up for weeks at a time and then run completely freeze free for the next month or so. Go figure.

Are you sure you are not trying to convince me to change to Linux? :D ;)
Great to see you back on here - missed talking to you

Same problem here but I run 98se and often have to reboot because a program crashes and takes the rest of the system with it.....but I am running a lot of shit and do need to do a stripdown and clean out.

I reboot several timies a day or night or whatever. It depends on how much memory intensive programs has ran.

Like say, The scanner, or/and photo printer. The wife and i reboot before and after such use. She plays a lot of video games!

I reboot after downloading a lot of, ahem, programs or such things, cough, cough.

I have T clock exe. with the resourses digital readout going, right now it reads 73% i have taken the sucker down to 11% with out windows crashing ( did i say that i added some RAM?).

Someone recommended keeping systems resources above 70% percent to keep from getting so many error messages and having windows crash. With all the neat little programs out there that is hard to do.

I found that no matter what you do, if you use the hell out of your computer you can count on reloading windows 98se about every six to twelve months or learn to live with crashes and error messages until the junker refuses to load up.

Note: shutting down and restarting your computer every two to five days will help some.

Damn it all... i forgot i was only a dumbass sex fiend!:p it won't happen again!

and here I thought it was something I was doing, pissing off the puter gods and such. I really must learn about this heah contrapsheeun.

Well, it really depends on how much I am messing with things!! But...at the worst times, when I've been running *way* too many memory-intensive things, I may have to reboot once a week...sometimes I go longer than that with no issues at all. Actually, since I built my new machine and upgraded to WinME, I have really had no problems overall. Have run out of mem a couple times, but that was because of some streaming video issues...muahahaha :)

Here's a hint that might help some of you.

Go to analogx.com and download and install MaxMem.

It keeps your memory flushed out so you never run out. It also reduced my problems with crashes about 20% when I was running Windows.

I'm currently running Windows 95 and to be honest, I haven't had a lot of problems with it. My classmates kid me about being analog (I can't remember the commercial/store) for having a bare bones older system and Win95. However, it's stable and I'm hard pressed to make any changes in the operating system right away. I'm sitting here with copies of 98 and Linux RedHat staring at me. Linux is starting to win the battle ;) I'm considering a dual boot in the future :)

I reboot:
the Commode 64 once a decade
the Trash 80 gets rebooted once a year
the Linux machine never needs a reboot
the Windows XP Pro machine 1 about once a week
the Windows XP Pro machine 2 is not yet complete, but I'll let you know. . .

Imagine that. What's the OS on the trash 80?
