Reason Over Emotion

the point, amicus, is that no functioning country has ever had 'voluntary taxes.' it's a laughable concept.

i know of several folks who subtract a 'war funding' from their taxes. but they are realistic enough to know it can't work. IRS gets you in the end. (IRS being set up by laws passed by the elected congress.)

while the constitution has become strong in individual rights, they, from the first were always over rideable, e.g., in war time. the constitutional objectives were not limited to 'protect individual rights,' but included 'provide for the common defense', and 'promote the general welfare.' pursuit to which there are taxes; taxex that everybody even objectists and anarchists have to pay unless they go undergroud.

you live in a society you *are obligated to* pay certain taxes, and undertake certain duties prescribed by the vast majority. COs [conscientious objectors] to wars have become legally recognized; they are partly absolved of a duty, but not of the obligation to pay taxes. COs to taxes cannot ever be.
