Ok this is a major geeky question but maybe someone knows the answer so here goes

I have Fedora core 4 x86 (the one for 64bit processors) and i really really want flash player to work on here.

i have mozilla firefox 1.0.4 and i have tryed running the linux version of flash player from terminal and have also tryed a manual installation (logging into root and copying the 2 needed files into the firefox plugin folder) and firefox wudnt launch after i did that so any ideas?

Call your internet provider and ask them. That's what they are there for.

lol its not a question an ISP could answer, as its a software problem and nothing to do with their service

Then call an IT person. My brother works at the store. Just call and ask. When he gets home I'll ask him.

I suspect this is a question only Macromedia's tech people can answer.

This my be a case of your operating system/browser not emulating Windows ActiveX functions properly since Macromedia's Flash Player requires ActiveX permission to run under IE.

i dont belive its possible yet unless if you look and download some type of system processing program (converts it into language your computer can read) most Flash systems havent been made to accomidate the language of 64 bit computers yet, your best bet is to wait till macromedia comes out with the next version or patch which will probably allow it to be ported over to 64 linux systems.

but if your just that hell bent, you can always look up either a Flash posting forum (much like Newgrounds.com) which usualy have hacks on these flash players allowing it to be used on systems it would normaly not be used on.

be aware this violates the user end agreement, blah blah blah, legal jargin.

humm this would be a question for my boy, what type of linux are you running? it's surprising how many people have no clue what linux is :p

i wish you luck... if you really can't find anything i'll ask my boy for you.

im using fedora core 4 x86 (its the version for 64bit processors). it is surprising that many people in my college ICT course have not ever heard of linux or unix.

I googled and found this.

Link.

Here is my google search.

You may also want to check to make sure there's a link in your Firefox plugin directory. I'm not sure where this is located on your system, as I'm not sure where you installed it. I know that the standard .rpm file for it creates the link in a default location of /usr/bin/Firefox or somewhere simiiler (I haven't used RH/FD in a few years now), but if you installed Firefox somewhere other than the default directory than you may need to make a link yourself.

i didnt actually install firefox it comes part of the fedora core 4 package, as for that link i have already tryed installing that and it changes nothing im gonna email macromedia tech in abit and also have found the official fedora irc ill have an ask about on there

third one down on this second link tells you the problem he is encountering.

AMD64's dont have offical support by micromedia flash players. the only way that i know of to use flash media on those are littraly finding a hack some where. again, forums or sights that consist of Flash Film posting would have some way of getting around this problem.

the only other things you can do is, 1 wait for macromedia to catch up, or 2 Find a Diffrent program that Runs on AMD64 processers

Wow, no macromedia support for 64 bit procs? Seems odd, 64's are new, but not _that_ new. I would have expected macromedia to be ready for release.
It makes sense that you'll need a different install of flash to run on a 64 bit proc however.

I run FC3 myself, but not on a 64 bit proc. So i'm afraid i cant be much help.
You say that firefox wont launch after you install the flash player?
I'd try opening up an xterm (or whatever your terminal emulator of choice is) and launch firefox from there. Chances are that if there's an error while its loading it;ll output it to the terminal. Then you might have an idea of where to start. Try googling that error, see what you come back with. Post it here too, i'd be interested to see what's going on.

But, this may be all of not if it is indeed a known problem and its just a matter of Macromedia catching up.

Good luck!
Running Linux is always a challenge! (But well worth it!)
