Ok.. my 11 year old son needed new shoes

so off to the shoe store we go...

walk to the kids department.. find a size 6 shoe.. he tries it on.. to small.. ask saleslady if they have said shoe in size 7.. she says (as she points to the mens department) He has to move up to those.

Ok.. fine.. go to mens departement.. find said shoe.. he tries it on.. it fits great.. gives him a little grow room. I pick up the box and head to the cash register..

I notice the sign.. buy one pair of shoes get second pair 1/2 off! Cool Beans.. youngest daughter needs sandels.. so I find a pair in her size.. head back to cash register..

saleslady rings them up.. turns to me and says *$89 and some change please*.. I about fell over.. Zachs shoes (in kids department) were $49.99.. Kimbers sandles were $25.00 (half off $12.50)

I start adding on my fingers.. something isn't right.. this doesn't add up.. I question the sales lady..

She looks at me funny and says.. The mens shoes are $20 more than the boys.. (only one size difference.. other wise same exact shoe)

for school next year.. my kids are getting boxes. No more shoes! I can't afford them anymore

I hate when kids grow up!

oh yeah.. my question.. almost forgot

Why the fuck are they so much more expensive? Has anyone figured this out yet?

Freaky dear, they actually vary according to what brand

I've seen kids shoes for $250AUD here.. and the same in mens sizes 3/4ths of that or less... its just a balance.

unfortunately, i suspect the only answer is "because they can get away with it."

I wonder the same thing everytime I have to pay $5 more for the centimeter more fabric between a D cup and a DD. *grumbles*

oh trust me I know all about the price of shoes

one of the agreements between my ex husband and I.. for part of my child support to him is to buy shoes when the kids need them.. (I also prefer to do this because he thinks if you buy them larger they will last longer  )

I have a 15 year old son.. I haven't paid under $100 in a few years..

Zachs shoes today.. were Nike brand.. same exact shoe as the "kids" but they were $20 more.. I just don't understand why. I wouldn't think it would cost that much more to make a size seven.. compared to a size 6 "kids"..

I'm not bitching really.. I would pay anything for them to have good comfortable shoes..

"Payless" LOL

two words

Hell no.. :)

wait.. you are my ex husbands wife.. aren't you? ;)

When it comes to shoes.. I refuse to buy them at Payless (WalMart, Kmart or any other discount shoe place).. especially for my kids..

Because children generally run through shoes faster than adults.

Maybe they figure that since it is a 'Mens' size men will be buying them and men have more money than kids? That is a perplexing question I must say.

LOL My middle daughter HAS to have 20 pairs of shoes, and I refuse to pay $2000 dollars so she can be a fashion diva at 9 years old.

i honestly think it's because of the average price of men's shoes. In marketing, sometimes a product can lose consumer interest if it is priced too low. Really. People assume the quality is too low, or the brand must be out of favor, etc. So once they put the label "men's" on there, as opposed to "boys,'" they elevate the price. That's what i bet it is, anyway.

I buy good quality shoes because kids feet are still growing and the support is important (I grew up with my dad being a shoe salesman for awhile, I know more about shoes than anyone needs to know :D )

I have to buy on the average.. three pairs of shoes per child per year (we have 8 kids.. you do the math ;) )

It sucks that they have to grow... and because of it.. I pay more for clothing and shoes!

I wish I could figure out how to convince them that shoe boxes are the latest fad

:D

You could be right.. who knows why they do it. I guess I just pay for them.. there really isn't anyway to get around it. Theft is not an option here ;)

I'm lucky.. my youngest is 6.. and tiny.. only wears a size 9 in toddlers.. her shoes are still pretty cheap ;)

She has to have atleast 20 pairs of different shoes.. a pair for every outfit..

I have another daughter (she's 13) who could care less if her shirt and pants matched.. let alone if her shoes match her outfit.. I wish the youngest one was like that sometimes.. lol

amen and keep up the good work. you sound like an attentive mother.

--later.

I am always left wondering where last year's bookbag is (my son will be a senior, my daughter a junior, some where in this house there are over twenty bookbags, where, I haven't a clue). Where is the 20 dollar binder we got you had to have last year?

New shoes, new coat, new pants, shirts, socks, underwear... Pens, pencils, paper...

That isn't even counting all the new goodies I need every school year.

:(
