I bet those shining lights are lamps and not real Christmas fairies.

We live in a tall-conifer forest.

We have our choice of cedars and firs to cut down or uproot.

Yet the decorated tree in the den is artificial.

We are pervs, eh? Or Greens.

What is the carbon footprint on producing a plastic tree?

I'm glad you showed the end result because that first pic looked like it was missing some branches. Good luck getting out the door.

What are the carbon footprints of your sneakers, kitchen utensils, home wire insulation, and shower curtains?

An artificial tree (mostly paper in this case) is assembled once. Conifers are cut every year. Our preferred 'tree' was a large potted rosemary bush that served for several years before being consigned to the ground at our then-home. I used a plastic cannabis plant for some years also. Very festive.

Then there was my friend Eric whose aluminium tree (scavenged from a trash pile) was illuminated by the stolen highway flashing light underneath it. Think of it as recycling.

I'm a carbon based life form. If I were a silicon based life form, I would only leave tracks in the sand.

If silicon, you would BE the sand. Walking through sand would be like carbon-based units squishing through tar pits. [/me visualizes La Brea's sabretooth cats]

Back to yule trees. Blame Prince Albert (in a can). If he'd not brought the heathen Teutonic practice to civilized England, we wouldn't now be inundated with the buggers. We wouldn't spat over (un)natural and (non)traditional trees. We could spend XMas hanging out under the mistletoe, where we belong.
