We have had our three day holiday and I trust all had a good time. The observence of Memorial Day, previously called decoration Day, has ended and we are approaching the real Memorial Day on May 30.

By one name or another most nations have a similar day to honor their heros who have fallen on the field of battle. Many individual states have a separate day of honor in addition to the federally proclaimed day.

Primarily because of the holiday status many people have lost sight of what Memorial day is. Those of us who have served and survived as well as all the familys and friends of our fallen comrades do not forget. It is a day to honor the dead.

Many of the dead do not rest at home and therefore placing a flag or flower at the gravesite is not possible but the important thing is the rememberance. Take a moment to pay tribute to our fallen heros on Thursday May 30

For those who did not bring their own flag please feel free to download mine from the attachment. I would have put it in this post but unfortunately don't know how.

Thank you Synnerman.

As I previously suggested in another thread, I was discouraged that the meaning of Memorial Day had been lost.

I have three uncles and a grandfather who served.

My brother is active military and has been so for 18 years.

I am fortunate to say that none of my loved ones were lost at war, however, for me, Memorial Day is a time to remember our vets as well.

Be thankful for the heart, minds and souls that protect life as we know it.

I am here to pay tribute to Gary, Rob, Erick and my own Uncle Rick.

Thank you MissT, it means a lot to me to have you post first here. You were among the first visitors to grace our little group when we landed at Lit. I always notice and read your posts when I encounter them as I did recently on the other board.

Yes, Memorial Day has expanded to include all Vets and active service people both men and women. Serving proudly allows us the freedom to be who and what we are.
