Real Life meets ppman...

In the supermarket today I was studying the economics of buying one and getting one free of one particular brand of butter and 50% off another brand when a young man of, shall we say Middle Eastern appearance, the tea towel around his head helped a bit, came around the corner chanting, well muttering is probably a better way to describe it, "We are strong, we are powerful".

Having no idea what he was talking about I gave up studying the economics of butter and said in my best old man irritated voice, "What?".

The youth spoke out much louder, this time brandishing his fist in the air and said, "We are powerful. Our strength will win".

I get bored quite easily nowadays and I couldn't see any entertainment value in the young man so I said "Piss Off!".

He went back the way he came. I don't know if he stayed around to do any shopping but...

today I feel as though I've done my bit against Saddam...

Racial profiling is when you target someone who is otherwise minding their own business. When you judge someone for a combination of their appearance and their behavior that is simply a judgement call like any other.

But, just to play the devil's advocate (or in this case, advocate for the man in the turban)--a perhaps more intelligent, and potentially less offensive way to react would have been to respond to his "We are powerful. Our strength will win" with "Yes. I believe that we will win."

It's always easier for one to come up with snappy remarks after the fact, isn't it?

That's puerto rico dumshit but we'll claim them as our penniless serfs that dutifully provide us with ample rum(dark, white, and spiced), sugarcane, coffee, pineapples, and bananas.
