A couple of days ago a friend who is black asked me to give this a listen. I did and said 8m sure many folks agree with his sentiment. He agreed and said his boss said it was racists.
I laughed and thought it was someone looking to be offended .

no he never claimed to write it. he also didn't pick the site. he DID move to a small town (around 1400, i believe) after he was sick of the crime & BS in Macon. So yeah, that's sorta nice for context.

Any true artist knows the message they want to present in a video. He knew what he was doing. He will make millions from it...not because the song is special...but because it pushes the right buttons for his fan base. The rest of us don't care.

it seems a LOT of people do care, or why the controversy? He isn't blaming the video removal from CMT on anything,just said he's been called nasty names & those are completely meritless claims,based upon his song & video. Don't see that as a 'tool being used'. It might sell streams, but I'm not one to buy that kinda stuff. nor are a lot of folks.

a TON of people who never heard of him, could care less for country music, but looked into after the controversy. Not sure about those being his fan base. However, the song/lyrics clearly resonates with lots of people who were sick of seeing the 'summer of love' criminals get away with the horrible actions they perpetrated and basically said self-defense (including ones' neighbors & family) is much more common away from the cities. Just my two little cents....
