Hey, I open myself for flaming here but...

I've decided to write a real book. It will be short and inspirational, sort of like the holy man and the celestine prophecy but more fantasy based. I have hand picked a few literoticans to help me with my project.

I have divine inspiration and therefore cannot fail. I need a bit of help if you can offer with...

1. how to outline a story
2. how to find a publisher
3. a good resource for adjectives on the internet
4. volunteers to proof read each chapter

Thanks and with a part of the millions that I make from this book I will donate to literotica to make it even better.

1. How do you usually outline a story? No difference just because it's on paper.
2. Eh...have no idea.
3. If you havenä't needed a resource for adjectives in your writings so far, what makes you think you'll need one now?
4. Eep. Don't look at me.

But best o luck.

ah...

1. my stories without outlines aren't that good
3. read a few of my stories and you'll see I have a tendancy to use the same adjectives and verbs over and over again!
4. Liar is my first proofreader! thanks!

long story writers

Do you plan out the whole book with a basic outline or go chapter by chapter?

1. How about your stories WITH outlines? Have any? It's not all that different to write a long or a short story in that regard. Just let it roll. "Next dayI woke up and..."
3. And why haven't you looked for alternatives there? If you don't do it for short strories, why for long ones? My guess is that a novel is more forgiving towards repetition, since you're not really reasonably expected to keep phrasing unique all the way through.
4. *runs away and hides*

write like a mofo till you have about 80,000 words or so , then get a really good editor

Fools rush in, sweetheart!

Okay- you want to outline the whole book- vairly simply. get the whole arc, right? How it starts, what the problem is, what the complication is, how it gets solved.

Then you add stuff between the notes on your arc, including characters, actions, and places.

Then you figure out how many chapters you MIGHT have, and evide your arc into that many chapters.

then you write outlines for each chapter- to make sure it starts where it should and ends where you want it to.

Then you connect the dots.

Sounds pretty easy, huh?

I've never done it successfully....

Thanks Stella, that makes sense!

I'm on it. Liar. no none of my stories have ever had an outline. I usually just write and write and then when I'm done I stop and spell check and wala theres the story!

Yeah...never had the outline thing work successfully for me either. Pesky things like ....the characters and their tendency NOT to follow the prescribed plan have prevented it from working so far.

So....yeah....best of luck. :)

1. I have no idea how to outline a book. I've written books. I just start writing with some general idea of where it starts and where it should end and just let it go.

2. Finding a publisher is hard. Get a copy of Writer's Market and go at it. The publisher you end up with will be determined by what kind of book it is - Children's, Non-Fiction, Novel, etc. I'll give you a hint: There are a lot of publishers out there and all of them get hundreds to thousands of submissions. You will need to read up and make a realistic assesment as to what size press you should submit too - Large Commercial Press at 200 + titles per year, Medium Press at 50 to 100 titles per year or a Small press that only does 5-10 titles per year.

So get an agent. Nope. They don't really want unpublished authors. After you get published, if you book is good enough they will look for you.

Generally speaking, there are a lot more publishers who only deal in non-fiction than any other genre. There are damn few who take erotica. There are some who do romance, historical and mainstream, but nearly all the large presses (Random House, etc.) only accept manuscripts from agents.

Finally, if you have a manuscript you want to sell, you will have to reformat it to the writers standard or to the publisher's specs (double spaced, 1" margins all round, pages numbered, 12 pitch Times Roman type face, etc.) You will only submitt the first three chapters, a one or two page synopsis and a query letter. When you submit a book to a publisher, you won't hear anything for 2 to 6 months. Then you will get REJECTED or they will ask for the entire manuscript. If they do want the manuscript, it will be another 2 or 3 months before you hear anything.

Caution: There are a lot of scammers in the publishing business. Anyone who asks you to pay for editing, artwork etc. is scamming you. Generally, anyone you find in Writer's Market should be alright, but you need to check their website before you submit to see if they have been dropped due to complaints before you submit.

Other than that, I know nothing
