Hi,

I guess that I should have asked this ahead of time, but does anyone have any idea of how active the readership in the Sci-Fi category is?

I just submitted a Valentine's Day contest entry and realized that it may not garner enough votes to qualify for inclusion if readership there is more subdued than in other categories.

I have one piece in SF/F; it has fewer views than anything else I've written, but twice as many votes as some of the stories that beat it in view count. I don't know whether SF/F readers are especially vote-y, or if I just lucked out and wrote something that got readers eager to vote.

If you want to do well in a contest, it's much more important to make sure your story is in the category that is the best fit than that it is in the category likely to garner the most views and votes. If you mismatch story and category, you may get votes, but there is a good chance some of them will be votes you won't like.

Go take a random sample from the Sci-Fi category first page, see how many views each new story is picking up. That will give you an idea of the traffic.

It's not a huge readership, and I believe they like long yarns and expect lots of world building stuff. A one-off competition story? Possibly low interest.
