Something has been bugging me for a while now, and I just had to say something. The people who read your story and bother to vote and/or give feedback are not trolls (whether or not the feedback is good). They are human beings, with all the flaws we humans are capable of. They have bad days, and good days. And we have no right to malign them in such a general sense as they've been maligned on these boards.
Granted, there are a few people out there who will vote for malicious reasons. There are MORE people out there who will vote for the right reasons.
Strange feedback? Yeah, there are some strange people out there. Does that give us the right to poo-poo their criticisms? We can disagree with them, but when we get down to returning their acidic or disgusting remarks with the same kind of drivel they give us, then we have become just as bad as they are.
Treat your readers well, and they will respond in kind. Kick them to the ground because they disagree with you, and they'll kick back. Respect your readers until an individual gives you REASON to disagree with them, and then discount their opinion. No need to make issues, and no need to keep refering to EVERYONE who one's you as a non-human.
There, I've said my piece. To those who've given me one's in the past and future -- thanks for your opinion, and tell your friends. The more people who vote honestly for my work, the less the other kinds of votes matter.
