re: dyppan
ok...weird word, I know. First I want to thank everyone who has sent feedback so far on my newest lil piece.
To the person who emailed me and said he/she couldn't find "dyppan" in their dictionary..I wouldnt expect you would! I was initially planning to call the poem "dip" but it seemed so pitiful in the preview, I looked intentionally for a "different" word, although I didnt expect it to be so obscure.
It's entymological origins are Old English coming, presumably from the Germanic based *d(e) up_ meaning dip or hollow..according to my ref book, Dictionary of Word Origins, Ayto, John
the verb *dupjan produced the OE dyppan, meaning to immerse..so without the simple word, I got the meaning I wanted, even though it confuses people..Sorry for the inconvenience..and thanks again for the email
sincerely, M
