Raw Scotland

Hi!
I've been busy, and on holiday.

Thought I'd drop by...

These guys are very cool.

Top Secret Drum Corps.

Fucking fuckity fucking fuck fucking FUCK!!!   that was one of the most impressive displays of drum line I have ever seen. The rolling notes from one base drum to another, the playing off of each others drums, and stick-dueling while playing drums. Wow! I uh... I think I just messed myself

This is who I marched with one summer (Drum Corps International - very big deal. You have to try out, etc.)

It's fascinating to me that although the rhythms may be different, or the methods, drums are central to all old cultures. :)

I LOVE any and all drums. There is something primally powerful to their rhythmic pounding... though... sucky high school drum lines try my patience.

true. I was lucky, I suppose, since I didn't start marching until college, and always marched in very good corps (Phantom Regiment among them). :)

NICE! :D

The high school band I am acquainted with rather frequently now just plain sucks. I never played drums. I have a degree in vocal and piano performance, but... even I can tell when they suck. It's a little sad to me because music stirs my emotions like nothing else. I can get shivers or cry from just a split moment in music. When I hear GOOD drums I get it all... shivers, the need to move my body, an ethereal feeling like I'm almost flying (and no I wasn't smoking anything ); that's what good powerful rhythm does for me.

I never did marching drums, but I have always enjoyed playing a rock/metal drum kit. I just wish I owned a set right now. I haven't played in so long...

At powwows I almost always cry at the Grand Entry. It never fails to hit me hard, but I suppose that has something to do with pride, as well. :)

I lived in Scotland for three years, Inverbervie. It's between Aberdeen and Dundee. We saw the Royal Tattoo it was unbelivable.

One of these days I am going to make it to Scotland. it is on my list of place to see.

Love all the drum links everyone.

You marched Phantom?

Jesus. I probably saw you perform.

I love DCI. Never miss the finals.

Even travel at times to catch them.

The wife and I have promised ourselves we'll be going to Edinburgh next summer. I have always had a burning desire to see the Tattoo for real, rather than on TV. If only to avoid the annoying voice over guy !!

Problem is, accommodation in Edinburgh during the 3 weeks of the festival........expensive, and almost impossible to get. Guess we should start looking now for next August.
