I noticed on the writer's profile setup page, there's a place to specify a rate. I am guessing that's the rate you would charge someone to write a story, novel, etc., for them. I have no experience with selling my works yet, curious as to what a ballpark rate would be, and how best to charge - by the word, project?

Ah yes...the thing is...no one sees that information except you right now. I have never see a listing here that shows any of that information.
