Just a minor correction. New York is the THIRD most populated state in the U.S. (2000 census says population: 18,976,457 ) Texas is the SECOND most populated state behind California. (2000 censuse says Texas population is: 20,851,820 )

either way, even if texas DID beat out NY, then we're third.. still don't qualify as "not that big".. it's not like we're Iowa or sumthing..
